Any suggestions for high reward treats? We've used a number of things in the past, chicken works well but is so messy, a bit expensive, and work to boil up. We have also used string cheese which works wel, but has lost some value recentlyl. Our old trainer used frozen precooked meatballs thawed (for people), but even I don't eat those! Our current trainer cuts off chunks from Natural Balance Rolls which we were thinking of doing, but I don't see the rolls referenced here on the food group, and they are not rated highly (2 stars) on dogfoodanalysis. Right now BB is on a grain free diet (previously TOTW, currently trying out Orijen), so while he has no aversion to grain, is it silly to give him treats with grain?

We need to practice obedience at a distance and recall, both requiring high reward treats for Bonne Bouche. His normal dry treats aren't very enticing during these training sessions and we're trying to find a higher value treat for these particular sessions...

Thanks in advance

It's expensive, but I'd try freeze-dried liver treats; very few dogs can resist them, and they're small. The other never fail training treat is lamb lung. If you can find Old West Baa Baa Q's, tthat would be a good choice. Otherwise, Merrick has Texas Hold Ems lamb lung treats. Don't you love the names?

Or you can use any flavor of the Pure Bites freeze dried treats.

I would definitely stay with grain free treats.

Great suggestions. All new for me! Thanks!

my dogs love the freeze dried livers, but they make your hands smell really bad after an hour long training class!

For high value treats I slice chicken weiners into thin slices (I am guessing I get at least 15 pieces per weiner) and microwave them until rubbery.  They are super oderiferous and attractive.  I store unused portions in the fridge.

Another great idea! much easier to make than chicken, healthier than meatballs, and "cleaner" than both! So glad I asked!

Heck, I use "raw" turkey dogs and dispense with the cooking! (Although make sure there isn't garlic or onion in them).

good call to check for onions, I didn't think of that!

The other thing I would recommend is dehydrated chicken breasts, broken into small pieces. Clean, you won't get greasy, and no prep. Not cheap, though!

The Pure Bites treats are dehydrated chicken, liver, and other protein sources, and they're small. They're not cheap, but they're the most reasonably priced of that type of treat. Fresh is Best makes some great dehydrated raw all protein treats, but those are realllly expensive.

The liver treats aren't that small but they can easily be broken into smaller pieces.

My trainer had us use god awful things like bits of hot dog. Why once I even bought and cut up Spam at her instruction. The greasiest stuff but luckily Luca survived it.

lol, SPAM!  ;-]
