Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We are getting our Goldendoodle in March sometime and are trying to figure out our budget. I was wondering how much you spend a month and what brand you buy? Thanks so much!!

It's going to vary tremendously not just from one food to another but from one dog to another, because the amount you feed varies with the age and weight of the dog. What is the expected adult size of your doodle?

And in my case, I feed half kibble and half homecooked, so the amount I spend on kibble is much less than it would be if that was all he ate.

We do have some cost per day comparison charts here in the FG that might help.

Cost comparison for recommended kibbles: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/cost-co...

Another chart with some recommended brands and some definitely not: http://www.crittercabana.com/dog-food-costs-per-month-comparison/

Another one with both "good" and "bad" brands: http://www.fidosmarket.com/the-cost-of-food/

Thank you! These are very helpful!!

JD is a standard and weighs about 80 lbs. I feed him Wellness Simple Solutions Salmon & Potatoes (along with homecooked food) and his kibble costs me about $65/month, would be more if I didn't add the homecooked food to his meals. His treats (Fromm and Pure Bites) probably run another $20/month.

I have a very similar curiosity. We are getting a standard F1 goldendoodle in January. Trying to get a monthly budget nailed down and planning on feeding Orijen six fish. Hoping to not have to buy more than one large bag per month. At around $80 a bag it's not cheap stuff! It would be great to get some reassurance from fellow GD owners.

Orijen actually costs less to feed than many of the foods that are "cheaper" by the bag, because it is calorie dense and you feed less.

I'm aware of that. I've fed Orijen before, love it, and would feed it even if it were double the cost it is currently. Just curious how often GD owners go through a bag. I have had australian shepherds and old English sheepdogs in the past and could easily make a 30 lb bag last one month. Hoping a Goldendoodle is similar, but either way just want to budget correctly. :)

It's going to depend on the size of the dog. Standard Goldendoodles can range from 50 lbs to 100 lbs. We find that the breeders usually underestimate the adult size.

When my 80 lb Labradoodle was eating Orijen, he ate about 5 lbs a week.

Perfect! We are thinking he will be 65-80 lbs. both parents are just over 60 lbs. Even if we feed 7 lbs a week we are still in the 1 bag/month range. Which is a bargain compared to "cheap" dog food! Thank you for the information. We will never be OVER prepared. :)

Gavin is about 80lb

I feed Petcurean GO! Fit and Free (grain free kibble)

He eats 2 1/4 cups per day (active feeding guidelines)

A bag costs $63.00 and lasts 35 days

Cost per day is $1.80

I would add on another $.30 per day for topper cost (wet food or cheap cuts  of cubed meat or a scrambled egg) and/or treats

Total cost per day to feed the G-Dawg is $2.10

I have not heard of Petcurean Go! Fit & Free food before.  I will have to look it up.  Where do you buy/order it from?
