My doodle is almost 7 months old and weighs about 60 pounds. He seems to be hitting a growth spurt and is still looking for more food when his bowl is empty. I know some dogs will eat as long as you are putting food down. We give him 2 cups in the morning, and 1.5 cups at dinner time. This was filling him up...but now is not. Is there a guideline as far as HOW MUCH kibble to give your dog per day at this age/size? I know a lot of people here don't use kibble, but I'm sure some do...any ideas about amount per day? We use Solid Gold "Hund-n-flock-n".
We have a 62 pound lab mix and we follow the directions on the kibble bag. He is 10 now and this seems to have worked well for us. I think the measurement for 40 - 60 pound dogs is usually 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 cups a day. We also have a more acitve 50 pound Springer Spaniel and we feed him the same amount. Hope this helps.
I have always used the guideline written on the bag of food and adjusted up or down depending on whether my dog was at a healthy weight ... a little less than the guideline when Rosco seemed too thick... a little more if Thule seems too thin.
I think this was already said, but I use what the bag says... and then tweek according to how hungry my dogs act, how active we have been, and maintaining a good heathy figure!
