Just Food for Dogs - DIY

In searching for a new food for my daughter's dog (long story, need a very low fat diet) I was recommended to a company called Just Food for Dogs (by Susan Thixton).  Has anyone here purchased food from this company, or purchased their Do It Yourself food package?  The DIY seems like an interesting concept where they give you the recipe for their food and you purchase the vitamin/mineral supplement and recipe/directions and make the food yourself.  I am going to call and talk to the company about it tomorrow but in the mean time thought I would see if anyone here has experience with them.

Diana, do you have a website? I cannot find any info about this food. Who recommended it?

I do have to say that Susan Thixton is a journalist, not a nutritionist, and has no formal education in either canine health or canine nutrition. (Or human health or nutrition, for that matter). She was a pet mom who lost a dog to the 2007 recalls and started researching and writing about dog food as a result. She has also used her dog food writings as a means to make a lot of money. I have personally found several inaccuracies about basic nutrition in some of her blogs. I would be very very careful about using her food or supplements, especially for a dog with a serious health problem. Your DD would be better off consulting an actual canine nutritionist, many people in my IBD support group use them. Monica Segal  and Susan Lauten are two that people in my group have used. Many of the vet schools also do nutrition consulting and will help you formulate a diet for dogs with special nutritional needs. 

If you can provide a website for the Thixton product, I'll take a look at it, but at this point, it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Talking to the people who sell the product isn't going to tell you much; you need an impartial evaluation.

Karen,  the website is http://justfoodfordogs.com/  .  I am not sure that Susan has anything to do with this company or not.  She just mentioned contacting them.

Susan recommended contacting them or the rayne nutrition company.  I saw you mention that one to someone earlier today.  I am going to be calling them tomorrow too.

Okay, I misunderstood. When you said "by Susan Thixton" I thought you meant the food was made by Susan Thixton, not that it was recommended by Susan Thixton, lol. 

This looks like a pretty good company. I love that their view on raw foods and completely agree with them. It might be worth talking to them and finding out if they have a product that will work for your DD's dog.

Rayne Clinical Nutrition is the only company I have found that makes Rx foods with ingredients that are sourced in North America and that are actually good ingredients, not garbage. 

I think it would be a good idea to explore both of these companies' products.
