my doodle loves hot dogs....what do you think about giving him an occasional low fat turkey hot dog?

He doesn't seem to have any reaction (other than licking his chops!)
and he really enjoys them

I buy Hebrew National Kosher Beef Hot Dogs and cut them into sliced quarters. I cook them in the oven awhile, blot them and use them for treats. My guys love them. I keep them and feed out of the fridge. I suppose the turkey one's would be OK too just get a kosher or better brand and use them as treats not food.
Thanks for responding Lynne! I'd never get them to the fridge.....he eats them for lunch. I know, I know, I'm the only fool who gives their dog lunch LOL I use the turkey ones because they have less fat.
No you're not. Several small meals a day are better than one big one. Just like with people. I make a whole big package from Costco at one time and with 3 dogs they last about 5 days to a week. Give other things too, like an egg or my Jack loves frozen broccoli, don't just rely on the hotdogs. Some dogs like yogurt, you can mix some into premium kibble, or some cheerios or pancakes.

It's a myth pushed by the Commercial DF Companies that dogs can't have people food. What do you think dogs ate before there were DF Companies? If you haven't already, come read through the discussions here on the Food Group, there is a wealth of info here.
thank goodness, someone of my "religion" LOL!!'
Beau gets whatever protein I am eating at night (steak, chicken, lamb, etc.) mixed with some rice, some veggies, and a crumbled up NuVet vitamin, every night. I also boil chicken breasts and keep them in the fridge, along with a pot of jasmine rice, so I always have something to make him a meal from. Lately, I've been mixing in a little Science Diet for sensitive stomachs (it's actually the best and most appetizing smelling of their kibbles).
When the pet food scare got bad, I just decided that I wanted to know EXACTLY what my baby was eating.
We are very familiar with the Costco hot dogs! Mom's favorite lunch!! The three of us have a picnic in the car all time with those. Does my brother get angry tho when he comes to check on the car he gave to Mom, and he can't figure out why it smells like the ball park! LOL
I think it's more of a soap box than a religion...but the more I learn about the CDFC's the less I like. I have been homecooking since 2007 Recalls and I will NEVER go back. My dogs are happy and healthy, no eye or ear problems, no poop issues, haven't been to the vet except for regular visits in 2 years. I have taught others to do it and are putting together a book (someday). I would try to get away from the SD and mix some of your own with rice, maybe a little pumpkin for sensitive tummies. DF in a can is crap. You have a compadre, anytime!
He's not at all crazy about the SD, but snce my vet told me "You are killing him with 'kindness"" about feeding him people food (feeding as I have described), I got nervous and bought the SD he suggested, a few weeks ago. As much as I trust my doctor implicitly.....if he was pushing it because he sells it and gets a kickback, then he shot himself in the foot. I discovered that Petsmart sells the same thing for much less money. One thing I do notice: Beau's teeth are not so white. I will have to bite the bullet and have them professionally cleaned, and his GD friend who eats all dry has beautiful white teeth.
