Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all, I'm hoping you can help me with my predicament. Due to some unforeseen circumstances we are having to slash the budget all over. We currently feed our 2yo, 50lb doodle Fromm Gold Adult and I would love to know if there is a more budget friendly option for him. We are considering Kirkland as we shop Costco regularly, however I have seen some negative comments regarding Diamond across this forum. I am open to suggestions if anyone is able to recommend anything :)

TIA!

We use Earthborn Holistic grain-free (fish or bison) and have been very happy with the food. It's about $52/ 28lb bag and 1 bag lasts us about 1.5-2  months (we have a 68lb goldendoodle).

You'll find negative comments about Diamond across the internet, because they source ingredients from China. :)

We also use Earthborn Holistic grain free food. My dogs started on Earthborn as puppies and we moved them to Orijen when they were 9 months old because Orijen was a top rated dog food. My dogs loved the different flavors of Orijen until it was no longer produced in Canada. We tried all the flavors of the KY Orijen, all the Acana flavors and Petcurean (canada based) and my dogs would not touch them. We were worried whether we would find a good brand they would like and thought "let's try Earthborn". Much to our pleasant surprise, they like all the Earthborn grain free flavors! It was a bonus in that it was about half the price of all the ones we tried.

I feel your pain, Jamie.  We feed our boys Orijen, but the bags are smaller and the price is higher.  We switched to Acana, also made by Champion, but found the cost to be the same - at least where I live.  We went back to Orijen, but I am looking for a high quality dog food that is a bit cheaper.  We go through 2 1/2 large bags a month at close to $90 per bag.

Nancy,

We were feeding Orijen Six Fish, but my Bob didn't tolerate it when they changed the formulation at the KY plant. So, we switched to Canidae Pure Sea. The nutritional percentages of Protein, Fat, omega 6:3 ratio, etc. are very similar to Orijen, and my dogs love it. $59.99 for 24lbs through Chewy. Now that we have 3 dogs, it's easier on the budget, too as they go through a bag every 2 weeks.

Thanks, Lori.  Love multiple dogs, hate the cost of food.

Hi Jamie,

I don't know what you currently pay for the Fromm food, but I see that Petflow carries a 33lb bag for 46.66. That is a pretty good price!
