I just received an email from my local holistic pet food store indicating that there are rumors that Nestle is in talks to purchase a stake in Champion Brands.  The email indicated that they're waiting to hear from Champion themselves, but it's big enough a deal that they sent out an email about it.  I'll be disappointed if that actually happens.  My pups have done well on Orijen.  That's what they've eaten since I first got them.

Yes, I'm sure all the nonsense about heavy metals and grain free foods was all a carefully orchestrated plan on the part of mult-national Nestle to weaken Champion's bargaining power. It's always about the money.
Very sad.

I would encourage anyone who is upset about this possibility to contact Champion. I used this email address:

customercare@championpetfoods.com

There may be more direct ways of getting the message through but this is the address I had.
I also sent them this, from the 2015 article on the acquisition of Merrick by Nestle/Purina. The comments, all 216 of them, pretty well say it all.

They won't acknowledge the proposal, of course, and who knows if will make any difference. However, we could have our say.

Has anyone heard any updates on this situation???

No updates yet.  I emailed my store earlier this week & asked if they had any updates from their reps yet & I've heard nothing yet.

I sent an e-mail to Champion telling them that I appreciate the quality of their food and request that they not sell out to a big box company.

That was a good idea, Nancy.
They have been under fire relentlessly in recent times. First, with that crap about heavy metals from that environmental group, and now with the nonsense about some of the Acana formulas causing taurine deficiencies. I do think some of all that was a deliberate attempt to weaken their bargaining power and set them up for a takeover.

Some of the speculation is I'm sure confusion over their new marketing director.  She used to the Chief Director for Purina back in the 90's.  That doesn't mean that are selling out.  It's part of their new marketing agreements with Crossmedia, Finn Partners, and IBM.
