I was feeding TOTW Salmon and now with this recall and hearing of others in the past I feel I need to move on to something else.
I have a couple problems one.. I need a fish and grain free food. Another one is I don't want to pay more than around $30.00 for a 15 pound bag of food. To me that is still high because I was use to paying half that and for only a 5 pound dog so it lasted months. I know feeding better food will cost more but my family just can not afford to pay $70.00 for 2 weeks worth of dog food.
So I am having problems finding fish, puppy & affordable to our budget, Any one have any ideas?
Earthborn has caught my eye with the grain free costal catch... but is that a life stages food or just adult?

This is the one I found that has caught my eye. I was wondering if it was a all stages food. The only thing that bothers me is one one pet store around here carries it so I guess I need to look online to see who sells it just in case and just make sure I have at least a weeks left at all times.
WOW thanks.
I need to send hubby to pick some up so we can start swapping her soon. I just had my baby Sunday so things have been crazy around here.
Congratulations! Born on Mother's day, how special is that?????
Yes Mothers day baby :) Real special since in the year before I got pregnant with him I lost 3 babies.
That is even more special!!!!!
depending on where you live? The Acana Pacifica grain free is 34 dollars for a 15 pound bag where i am.
Lindsey, I haven't been getting email notifications and just saw this discussion, or I would have replied sooner.
Regarding cost, you can't compare the price of one 15 lb bag of food with another, because the feeding amounts might be very different. 15 lb. of Orijen lasted me 3 weeks, whereas 15 lbs of Natural Balance last two weeks. So if the Orijen cost $40/bag and the NB cost $30/bag, (they don't, just using round numbers), in a 6 week period, the Natural balance would have cost ten dollar more than the "more expensive" Orijen. ($90 for 3 bags over 6 weeks versus $80 for 2 bags). In a year's time, feeding the "more expensive" food would actually save me more than $80.
I don't know the costs of every formula of food, but I would look at Orijen, Acana, Earthborn, Horizon, and Petcurean.
Fromm has some new grain-free formulas, including a fish-based food, FourStar Salmon Tunalini. That might be a good choice.
But...you don't have to change foods. The recall is due to a contamination issue in Diamond's Gaston SC factory, and may not affect your current food at all. No food has been found to be contaminated, and no dogs have gotten sick. The recall was a precaution, and was mainly for human safety. If the food is working for Cocoa, you may want to stay with it.
Thanks Karen,
We started swapping her to Earthborn last week. Our food was effected by the recall.
Let us know how the Earthborn works for her.
