When we first brought Tucker home, he was on Canidae--so we stuck with that for a few months but his stools never firmed up....so, we switched to TOTW and both he and our older dog seemed fine on that. However, they did seem to be eliminating more in a day. So, from all that I read on this group, we decided to transition to Orjien (not 100% which one at this moment, as I am not at home) so that they ate less = less to clean up. We are 100% switched over for about 1 week now and poor Tucker's droppings are so mushy :( and therefore his anal glands smell awful. Has anybody else had this happen with Orjien? Do I need to wait longer for his tummy to adjust...we did the normal 2-1 week transition. I was excited about them eating less of a better food, but not if it upsets his tummy. Any other suggestions? Should we try Acana or do you think it's too similar and would have the same issues? Should we just go back to TOTW since they both seemed fine on that or try something else? We have not tried Fromme....maybe that would be better? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...as I hope to go out tonight or tomorrow night to buy new food because I can no longer stand the smell coming from his rear. Thanks!

Orijen does not make any formulas containing grain.
the other beni of Acana is I pay 55.00 for a 29.7# bag and the cheapest I could find Orijen was $69 for a 30#...not a lot of difference but every penny counts.
Do you buy Acana locally? I buy from doggiefood.com. Right now they are charging $69.99 for the large bags of grain free. I do try to buy when they are on sale.
FWIW, petflow.com has Acana Provincial Wild Prairie Grain Free for $59.99 for the 29.7 pound bag. Flat rate shipping for $4.95, but they seem to be offering free shipping today for orders over $59.
I haven't checked other sites, but this is the lowest price petflow has for any of the Acana formulas.
Just wanted to share in case you're interested!
Thanks. I do have to pay tax for Pet Flow here in NJ but it still may beat doggiefood. Next time I may compare prices and ask doggiefood if they'll match.
F, we have a local Vet that carries it (I know amazing) he has always charged $55 buy 12 get 1 free. We are on our 10th bag so around August Daisy will eat for free!
He orders only Grain Free Pacifica but he told me he would order others if I wanted it. Pacifica is typically the most expensive in all the locations and she loves it. On occasion I get her the one with Chicken at the local pet SALON but only a small bag for a change of pace.
You are lucky, that is a great price. I vary mine from month to month but they all have gotten very expensive. Grasslands is $76 now.
This is all very helpful! Thank you everybody for your posts. I think we might try Acana. We were between Orjien and Acana and decided to try Orjien Adult dog, but the dogs don't seem to like it much. We are fortunate to have dogs that don't just gobble up everything in site....as there is usually some food left after they eat...so I'm not sure it is a problem of feeding to much since they stop when they are full. We were on TOTW for about 3-4 months before deciding to try Orjien, and it was mostly just because I felt we were going through it at an extreme rate due to eating more. We shall try Acana and see what happens. Hopefully, I will post that they LOVE it in a couple months! Thanks again for all the help everybody!
Does it make a difference to their tummies when you switch between the Acana and Orijen? I'm just wondering as I am thinking of giving Riley some different varieties. I will be sticking to the grain free varieties if I do this.
It shouldn't make a difference for a dog with a mature digestive system who has not had ongoing digestive issues.
The major difference between the Orijen formulas and the Acana grain-free formulas is that Orijen has a higher protein and lower carb content.
