I am definitely not the expert here, but my opinion is that you don't want to keep changing the protein source. I remember reading an article that said to not use all the protein sources in the diet in case your dog develops sensitivities or allergies where it could be useful to try a protein source which has not been a previous part of the diet.
A nice way to do it is to rotate a few different formulas (3 or 4) within the same line every bag or two; that way your dog gets some variety and is less likely to develop sensitivities. Judith is correct that you need to keep a couple of protein sources in reserve just in case. Very few recommended lines have formulas that contain every single protein, although a couple of them come close. So don't try every single one.
Which brand/formula do your dogs eat?
And which formulas did they have that contained lamb and turkey?
Is there a reason you have been feeding LID formulas? Do either of your dogs have digestive issues?
You might try rotating through the three Acana Singles formulas, which are Duck, Lamb, and Pork, and then you could include the Chicken & Burbank Potato in the rotation, too, if you wanted. You could switch it up with each new bag.
Ok. I will give this a try. This would still give me a protein source to go to if they develop any issues?
Yes.
Or, you could skip the pork formula and save that one for the future, to be on the safe side. Since they've already had the turkey Simple Solutions formula, you could use that one instead.
