Finally! Going to get a discussion started with good (and safe) dog treats!
As a reminder, any treats made from a company listed in our Recommended Foods list will work, so I am not going to list them here. Visit this link for those brands: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/recomme...

Hubby brought home some treats that he got at Sam's Club. They are Chicken Jerky Dog Treats made by Nature's Deli (a division of Kasel Industries in Denver, CO). They say that they are made in the USA and are made with U.S. Chicken Breast. The only ingredients listed are chicken breast and natural flavorings. What do y'all think?
We have had numerous posts here about Kasel Industries and the multiple recalls on their products sold at Walmart and Sam's Club, and other health issues with their facility. You need to return them or throw them away.
Truly, you just cannot buy anything edible for your dogs at these places, no matter what it says on the label.
Thanks Karen, that's what I was afraid of.
Some of our past posts about this product:

We do have some info here on Kasel Industries, but a reminder doesn't hurt. Simply put, I would not buy any of their products ever.
This includes "Nature's Deli" and "Colorado Naturals". Again, these products are mainly sold in places like Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart, Target, etc. It is just not safe to even look at any edible products for your dog in these types of stores. Buy paper towels and socks there, not food or treats for your pets.

The Kasel Industries recalls involve "Boots and Barkley" "Nature's Deli" and "Colorado Naturals". Again, these products are mainly sold in places like Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart, Target, etc. It is just not safe to even look at any edible products for your dog in these types of stores. Buy paper towels and socks there, not food or treats for your pets.
We have had FG discussions about Kasel Industries in the past. In this case, the products are not sourced from China, they are U.S. sourced and made, but the facilities are filthy and contaminated with salmonella.

On October 3, Kasel Associated Industries announced a voluntary recall of its Nature's Deli Chicken Jerky Dog Treats sold at Sam's Club stores due to possible contamination with Salmonella.

And I can probably find more, lol.
You are a gem! I know lots about nutrition for wee ones, but just have never gotten into the "down and dirty" about nutrition for my pets. (BAD MAMA) I did have my dachshunds on a quality food and just never changed it, but when we got the doodles, I started re-evaluating things that we were doing. (Typical new mama - get into a rut until that new bundle of joy comes along to shake things up a bit.) Anyway - I'm so glad that we did. I now feel much better about choices that we've made in the past, and have made since joining this group.
I'm so glad. All of us did the best we could in the past with the info we had at the time, but the way products are made and marketed these days makes it a lot harder to stay informed.
I'm so glad you are on here and will be returning those treats. I know 90% of Food Groupers have heard my soap box on chicken treats - they almost killed my chihuahua and he has kidney disease from tainted ones (Costco). Be careful :)
Ok I have added Cloudstar, Old Mother H and Trader J's. I might also add some "chews" to it soon, but in another section.
Thanks, Ally!
Edit to add: Dang I just saw that they had a recall. I have to look into that some more.
Karen, I just found these treats at my locally owned pet food store. I have been feeding some of the canned game meats from time to time as a supplement. The owner spoke highly about these treats. Sound good to you?

I especially like how they are somewhat soft enough that they can be broken into smaller mini nibbles without a ton of crumbles. Great if you only have one or two on hand and you are trying to make it last.
Evangers is in our "watch" section on the Recommended Brands List because of past recall issues. I'm very familiar with the company, as they're local, and their ingredients are good, and they have one of the best line of canned foods out there, but we can't recommend them full out without the disclaimer. The treats should be fine.
Buddy Biscuits are a Cloudstar product. Cloudstar is on the recommended list, see above. :-)
