Is there any advantage in using Salmon Oil over Olive Oil?
I have been sprinkling a teaspoon of Olive oil for my dogs everyday and it has definitely helped with the dry skin ( which started with the onset of winter ). I heard that Salmon oil is also good for heart etc, so I ordered it and started using Salmon oil instead...but, it smells awful. So, the question to all the food experts here - Is it really worth using the Salmon oil instead of Olive oil?
Thanks for all your input...don't where I would go without doodlekisses:-)

We use Cod Liver Oil from Fluffy dog wellness website, my dogs love it! I can't seem to smell much of an odor at all with this, but they sure can. I would not like anything with a strong fishy smell.
I use both. I only cook with the olive oil and I add a squirt of Salmon oil every other day or so directly into their food. It does stink, but they like it.
I'm not sure about the difference between salmon oil & olive oil in terms of efficacy (I don't believe olive oil has DHEA which is important for brain development in pups tho) but Oski gets Icelandic salmon oil & it doesn't have any odor.

Most commercial dog food has a higher ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids, so one reason for giving fish oil is to increase the omega 3 amounts in the dog's diet. (Good idea for people, too; we get much more omega 6 than omega 3 in our daily diets.) Olive oil is much higher in omega 6 than omega 3. It's not bad, but the fish oils are much higher in omega 3. Flaxseed oil can also be used to increase dietary levels of omega 3 if you don't want to use the fish oil.
Thanks for all the replies...I am going to order Icelandic Salmon Oil once I am done with what I have.
