Our last bag of Acana food came from an online store and arrived on Wednesday.  One hour after eating his dinner Spud's stomach churned so loud I could hear the rumbles.   Then, Starlit started rumbling.

Diarrhea ever since.  Accidents in the house because it is so quick.  Of course customer service is not in on weekends.

My questions:

  • Does your dog food come in different shapes sometimes?   The last bag looked different from the bag before?  Both bags were Wild Prairie.
  • Anyone else have problems from buying online?
  • Anyone else having problems with this product?

The most recent bag ( left) shaped flat and large.   The previous bag ( right ) round and smaller.

Same product

I am sick of this " sh^&t" literally.  Carpet scrubbers, bleach.....  never have had this before.

Joanne, I am only asking this because I know you had some confusion before about the different Acana formulas. Are you positive this bag is the same formula you had before, from the grain-free line? Acana does make another line that contains grain. They also make the same grain-free formulas for cats. Is it possible they sent that by mistake? Take a look at the bag and make sure it's the Wild Prairie formula for dogs.
Here's the link for all of the Acana products, for comparison purposes.

If you're sure it's the right product, something is wrong; it should not be a different shape and the bag should not look different. I would not give them any more of it. Put them on chicken and rice for now, with pumpkin if you can get it.
I hope they're better soon, please keep us posted.
YES. I sure did have Problems understanding the product :)
I have the UPC right here with me. Both of them. THANK GOODNESS I have them. I can take a picture of them too.

Both say Wild Prairie. I DOUBLE CHECKED because I was having A LOT of confusion. Since then I did my homework. But I have really sick dogs.

It is so bad this morning I called the company and wrote email. .....
I'll come back with more pictures.
I have the BAG from Wednesdays product. I also have the UPC from the last bag. Just checked--yes it is dog food.

Anything else? I'll take all the help I can get. It is Sunday. Pet Store is NOT open. I could drive to Cleveland to buy more food, but that is over and hour away. Chicken and Rice, Pumkin today? Okay--Just read above
Just changed my post as I didn't see the photo. Something is not right there.
I'd give chicken & rice with pumpkin today no matter what caused the diarrhea, so new food can wait 'til tomorrow or whenever they get back to normal.
Save the food for comparison purposes and to return to the company. Try to relax, hopefully they will be fine by tomorrow. Hugs to all of you.
My guess is that you did not get the same food you usually get because it should look the same. I hope you hear from the company soon. Keep us posted on how Starlit and Spud are doing. :(
Okay, another question. Sorry, I am asking a lot , but I am trying to troubleshoot here. Thank you for your patience.

Wild Prairie and Wild Prairie --both the orange colored bags. Is there a difference I am missing?

My house reaks of sick smell so I am a little panicked.
In your original post, you said the bag looked different, so that's why I asked. I have known of a different brand where the wrong food was put into a bag for a different formula. It does happen.
I stand corrected. The bags are the same. The kibble looks different ( posted ).
Okay, I'll keep you posted if the company calls me. Right now I am off to the grocer for the items above.
When I wrote the company this morning I did include both UPC numbers so maybe they have an explanation.
I still have some Wild Prairie left, and the funny thing is that mine looks like the food on the left. It's flat, not round like a ball. Can't compare sizewise, but it's about the same as the Orijen kibble in terms of size and appearance.
Thanks for going to look. For now, I gave a 1/2 Imodium to each. I'm miffed. I know I was soooooooo confused about the product before and thanks to the Food Group, I learned the difference, prices, varieties.
The dogs do not eat any table scraps, other treats, etc... because of Spud's intolerance to everything. They are watched in the yard, we go out with them, especially since both are on runs vs. going out with a fence. Nothing else new in our simple lives.

But I will let you know tomorrow what the company says. The Pet Store has all my other UPC labels since they turn them in, but the last time a new boy sold me the food and did not take the labels--so luckily I have the last two.

I'll be back in here tomorrow. For now, my dogs will LOVE the change in food today. :)
I feed orijen and acana. Both my pups got like yours not to long ago after feeding from a newly opened orijen 6 fish. Had to go to the vet to stop the diarrhea (pumpkin didn't help) and be put on flagyl. The vet told me to stop the food that sometimes a bag can go bad as they spray pesticides around them or maybe sat out in the sun to long on the tarmac (all at the distribution point not necessarily the fault of the manufacturer). But I also couldn't swear that they hadn't eaten something in the yard that upset their tummies. So I dumped that bag (owner of store gave me another bag) and got a different orijen bag (Red) and they are fine. I still have no idea what really happened. I did give the UPC code to the store owner and when he went the next week to pick up his order he asked if there had been any other dogs with issues on the 6 fish and they said no (naturally). I came home from work to a mesh like yours and it was pretty upsetting. Poor dogs.
