HELP!!!!! I just went to Pet Supplies and found out about the recall. Molly has done so well on Taste of the Wild Pacific Salmon...no loose poops for a year!!!!!! Please suggest what to switch her to immediately that is most similar, or how can I find out ? What of the highly recommended foods has never had a recall? I'm tempted to put her on Orijen, but when she was about 9 months, she had very loose poop from it. Thanks for any suggestions.....

If you're going to have to switch quickly, you're going to have loose poops on any food.  You might try one of the Acana formulas, either the grain free or the other formula.  It's made by the same company as Orijen.  I switch Bonny between Orijen and Acana grain free for more flexibility.  In any case, add some pumpkin or sweet potato puree and it should help a lot.

Laura, you may not have to switch food at all. The formula and/or batch you are feeding may not be included in the recall. Have you checked your label? Here is the press release from TOTW giving the bar code information on the recalled batches:

If you do want to switch foods, go to our Recommended Brands list and look at grain-free formulas. perhaps Acana would be a better choice for Molly than Orijen. Or you might want to look at Fromm's new grain-free foods, there is one that's fish based. In the meantime, I'll take a look at the ingredients in your current food and try to see what matches up best.

Okay, in terms of macronutrient profiles, the Fromm Four-Star Grain-free Tunalini formula matches up very well. In terms of ingredients, the Acana Pacifica is similar to the TOTW formula you're using. The protein content is higher, which in my book is a good thing, but you are probably going to have a few days of loose stool either way.

I have the same problem and am very low on food. Mine is Wetlands but I'll be interested in Karen's feedback.   I decided to order from one of the distributors in California to get outside the affected areas.  At the top of their TOTW section it says all their TOTW is manufactured in California.  Granted, it's costing me almost as much in shipping as the food itself but it will give me time to research and have a back up.  Regardless, I'll double check the codes when it's received.

See my response to Laura below. TOTW that comes from any plant other than the Gaston SC plant is not affected in any way.

Doggiefood.com ships free over $49. IT might pay to see if they have the "right" TOTW.

I switched a couple of weeks ago from TOTW Pacific Stream to Acana Pacifica and my two like it just as well, no poop issues at all. I decided that I couldn't stick to TOTW in light of the current recalls. My two don't tolorate Fromm very well, but Acana is a perfect fit.

Oh, and since I live in FL, my TOTW was coming from the plant in SC. It's not all made in CA. I called TOTW to verify before switching.

I think Cyndi meant that the TOTW food in the store where she bought hers all comes from the CA plant. The store probably put up that sign in the TOTW to reassure the customers that their products are not affected by the recall.

I don't have the bag.....I always pour food into a container and throw bag out, but no more!!!!!

So it looks like Acana Pacifica or Fromm.......i still have some food left and since she and we have been fine, I doubt as if its' a problem, so we can do it in a couple of days, rather than weeks and add pumpkin/sweet potato and pray!!!! Our first entire year was spent on RX food, medication, probiotics, and trips to vet, so we were thrilled when she did so well for so long. Thanks for your help

Laura, I always cut the panel that has the batch information off the bag and tape it to the container, you might want to try that in the future.

I still don't think you have to switch. The food you currently have is not contaminated, we can be sure of that. If you buy another bag of the same food, after carefully comparing the info on the bag with the info in the recall notice, you should be fine. All the bags of that formula don't come from the same manufacturing facility. I see you are in CT, and that is not one of the states listed in the recall information, which means that the food from the SC plant is not distributed in CT. It comes from another loaction where there is no salmonella contamination. I am pretty sure you're safe staying with this food, especially if your doodle has GI issues.

Karen, I feed Camus TOTW and was concerned when I read about the recall, but had not saved the bag after I transferred the kibble to a container. First thing I did was check the TOTW website and was relieved, however from now on I am going to save the bag info.  Thank you for the suggestion about cutting out the batch info from the bag.
