Hi all,

I'm posting this to food as I think this is the group who may have some advice. Taking Joey to the vet asap has been on my mind and before I take her this morning, I want to know if I'm over reacting or if there is a problem. Also, Joey goes to the vet A LOT - we take her for everything, blood in stool, runny stool, panting. We're just overcautious and it's becoming expensive and we come across as crazy dog parents.

So here goes. Joey's been fine. Last night about 2 hours after dinner, she threw it all up. No big deal, we're like weird. A little less than 2 hours after that she throws up yellow bile. Ok, still weird, but whatever maybe she's not feeling well. 2 hours later, she throws up again, but this time more salivy, clear but still yellow. Less than an hour she throws up yellow foam. In the middle of the night she hacks and heaves some more yellow liquid stuff.

She drank water between throw up 1 and 2 and 3 but not after. I've been trying to give her water. I read other posts where people say midnight snack. She won't take to her kibble nor the rice I've put out.

Wondering if stuff like this is normal and she'll get through it or do I need medical intervention (vet). I don't know what the vet would do except take temp and order a blood sample and stool sample.

Thoughts? If I'm going to the vet, I need to go now so I can make it to work :/

We went to the vet. He said throw up is ok. Throw up and refusing food is not. He's doing an x-ray and keeping her for observations.

I do have insurance - healthy paws. Which I love as I only pay 10%. Problem is, the exam fee is 94$ which insurance doesn't cover. Everytime I see the vet he charges this exam fee and it kills me. Any insurance recs where they cover exam fee / office fee/ whatever you want to all this fee?

I walked away with a clean bill of health, clean x-ray, no dehydration, clean blood panels and $1000 less in my bank :(

Hopefully the insurance covers some of that $1000.  Did the vet give any advice or educated guesses?

What was the vet's opinion as to why Joey was vomiting, nauseated, and refusing food?

Im sorry she is feeling so sick.

I too would bring her to the vet with that much throwing up.

Our Jazz like Janes Guinness had those symptoms with pancreatitis.

I hope everything is fine...Sometimes they can get a upset stomach for no known reason.

My 5-year old Ruby has certainly been through her share of vomiting. Over the years I've followed advice all vets have given me: an isolated incident or two is not to worry over. Likely the dog ate something nasty. It's best to hold back food for 12 hours to give tummy time to rest. You can rub honey or sugar water on their gums to keep blood sugar up, especially if they won't drink. Slowly introduce small portions of cottage cheese/boiled white rice after 12 hours, gradually adding normal kibble in 24 hours. This link is helpful.

It sounds like Joey is vomiting up stomach acids with the foamy yellow stuff. Her stomach is upset, much as ours would be. If you fed her, she'd probably not hold it down. I suggest calling your vet just to make sure a 12-hour fast would be good way to go, as per link above. Frequent bouts of vomiting requires a vet check, though. Good luck!

Hoping Joey is feeling better tonight...hoping your vet gave you some idea of why this happened to your sweetie pie.

How has she been acting tonight?
