I would like to know if something your Doodle eats makes their tummy upset so we can keep that in the back of our minds just in case...

Samantha's dinner last night was white meat turkey, pumpkin and green beans (which she eats almost every night). She woke me at 4am gagging and vomiting. Not much came out (sorry for the visual) but it was enough to get me wondering if it was the turkey. Monday night she had turkey mixed with chicken with no ill side effects that were evident except that she would not poop all day (which is not like her) but finally did at the park at 430pm. They were 'good poops' .
It could have been the turkey but I am not sure but just to be safe she won't be eating it again too soon. It cold have been a 'bug' or the turkey but just to be safe, DH and I will be eating the turkey.
Adrianne - Turkey is not good for dogs at all and they should never eat it.
We had a big discussion on whether turkey was safe to eat and the research was the white meat was safe to eat. I guess that Sammies tummy didn't get that message. So it's chicken and Prime Rib (LOL) for her!
It depends on the dog and the current diet. Check "Mythbusters" and "Homecooking" for more info.
Oh, I'm glad this came up so close to Thanksgiving. I did not know turkey is bad for dogs. In fact,
I bought my doodle a couple of cans of Merrick's Thanksgiving Day Dinner with the first 3 ingredients being: Turkey, Turkey Broth,Turkey Liver. I always trusted Merrick but I guess I need to check into this more before I give him the food.
Turkey is actually not harmful--check the discussion in the food group on " myth busters"
Jackdoodle's tummy cannot tolerate the "filling" that comes in the sterilized marrow bones sold in the pet supply stores; the bones themselves, no problems. He is also fine with "home-sterilized" marrow bones, so I know it's something they put in those "fillings".
I haven't bought those marrow bones for Samantha yet because I had concerned about her breaking off a piece (she is a major chewer). Has Jack been able to break off any pieces? (she only eats bones with me in the room - never unattended)
Adrianne, the real marrow bones are almost impossible for any dog to break...they are the strongest kind of bone, sections of a cow's leg bone (i.e. they carry the weight of a COW around, lol!) Choose the biggest ones, or ask the butcher to cut one for you.
If they really get going chewing on them, it IS possible for them to chew off some of the more porous areas on the inside of the "hole" where the marrow was. But that's very fine bits of bone, ( almost like coarse sand in terms of particle size) and has never caused a problem for any dog I know. I try to choose longer bones that have smaller openings, to minimize Jack's getting to most of the softer area inside.
Off to the butcher! Thanks
Beckett's gotten sick a few times on flossies. I have some left that I might wait and try again when he gets older. I have a couple of bully sticks that I'm afraid to give him after the flossies.
Diamond Brand dog food made my dog sick!! Had to be on antibiotics for a week.
