When can I switch Charlie over to adult food? He's an F1B Goldendoodle, I don't see him getting much bigger then he is right now. I would estimate he's between 50-55lbs. He hasn't grown much since 8-9 months old. He will be 1 year old on April 5th.

You should switch now. Typically, you switch from puppy to adult food when the dog's skeletal growth is complete, which as you noted, is around 8-10 months for most standard doodles.

Okay wonderful, thank you.

Thanks for sharing this! We're wondering when our pup will stop growing and have heard a larger age range. He's almost 8 months, so hopefully we'll know what his full size will be soon :)

They do continue to gain weight in the form of lean mass (muscle and bone) well past their first birthdays, but for typical standard sized-doodles, they are about as long and tall as they are going to get by 10 months. The very largest ones, those who are going to be 90+ lbs as adults, may still continue to grow taller/longer past their first birthdays, though.  And of course, smaller doodles will reach full skeletal growth earlier.

Ahh interesting. I don't think our guy will fall under that category - his mother was 45-50lbs and his father was 65+lbs...

Well, you really can't go by the size of the parents with mixed breed dogs, because there may be much bigger dogs further back in the pedigree, and bigger is usually dominant over smaller in genetics. What does he weigh now?

We haven't been to the vet in a couple weeks, but somewhere between 45 and 50... my guess is around 48 lbs

Yeah, he's not going to be super huge, lol.

Haha I didn't think so either...though I was secretly hoping he'd get up to 55 or 60 lbs or so ...though maybe this size is better considering his current energy level lol

You can do it now. :)
