Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have a 13 month old doodle who has had issues with loose yucky stools off and on since we've had him.  At first we thought it was something he got into.  BUT!  This week he's not been able to hold his poop during the day and had accidents in the house multiple times.  We feed him Inova dry and wet dog food.  Do Doodles have senstive tummy's?  I was giving him yogurt with dry dog food but our vet was concerned he would put on too much weight - he's at a very healthly 58 - 60 pounds.   He does have a bad habit of eating anything he finds in the yard (mostly sticks and pine cones) or paper products (napkins, paper towels, dryer sheets).  We have been pretty successful in keeping the paper products to a minimum (he loves to play keep away when he finds a treasure) but the outdoor stuff is next to impossible.

Any ideas on what I should try next?

My Sundog has a sensitive tummy and had diarrhea off and on for the first couple of years we had her.  Sometimes it was even bloody.  Now we feed raw and she is 1000% better.

When was the last time he had a stool culture done? Accidents in the house sound like a medical issue, regardless of what he's eating. Possibly giardia, or an intestinal infection.

Many doodles have stomach issues, but that's true of lots of breeds and mixes.

Plain, unflavored fat-free yogurt has fewer calories than canned dog food, so if weight gain is an issue, you can substitute yogurt for a portion of the canned food. But yogurt won't fix a medical issue. Plain canned pumpkin can also help firm up stools, but again, not if there is an underlying medical cause.

If things he is eating in the yard are causing this kind of stomach issue, he's going to have to be supervised when he's outside, as inconvenient as that might be. It's also fairly easy to keep him from getting things he shouldn't have indoors; keep paper towels, napkins, etc. out of his reach or put away, and keep dryer sheets in the box on a shelf, in a cupboard, or keep the laundry room door closed.

But I'd run a stool culture first, to rule out anything medical.

We were thinking of taking him to the vet this weekend to check it out -- we'll give that a try.  Thanks!

Debbie, did you figure out anything?
My doodle is 14 weeks old. He has had loose stool off and on since we've had him. Early on it was worms and then his food. Now we will have 1-2 good poops a day and then one loose. Usually it's no big deal. Last night he woke up in the middle of the night to go which is unusual but has happened occasionally. The bad poops vary from loose to diahrrea and never last.

He eats drinks plays etc and feels fine. Just not sure if a puppy will have off and on loose poops for no reason. Should I consider a different food eventually? Thoughts from anyone?
