YAY! Lucky passes Canine Good Citizen Today!! C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-E

I had Lucky signed up for Canine Good Citizen at the end of this month; however, I've done so much training with him that I felt like he could pass it and I was right!  It is the first step to becoming a service dog.  He passed with flying colors!!  He just turned 6 months old!!!!!!!! I am so proud!

He is gonna become my hearing dog.  Step two was canine good citizen.  Step three is public access.  Step four is hearing training.  I need him to locate sounds.  1. find my phone when it rings. 2. locate my car if i cant find it 3. notify me if someone is talking to me in a noisy area.  I have unilateral deafness and high freq hearing loss.

Wow!!! Mine is also hearing impairment too!!! I am deaf and I wear 2 cochlear implants.

There is a book called Lend me an Ear.  It is fantastic! Lucky is in a program called FL dog guides for the deaf. They are 2 hour drive from me and I'm dreading doing that every week for at least 6 months.  So they told me if I can get him to the point where he passes the test then i dont have to drive there that often. hehe

warning though, a good deal of this book is about testing to get the right dog from breed selection to specific dog temperament. Only the last section cover hearing training. I would get it from the library first.
