A nervous traveler

My husband and I LOVE road trips.  We traveled with our Seamus last year to Maine and it was fantastic!  We have rented a house in Tennessee this year and will be driving there with both of our doodles this year (this summer).  Well, go figure...we got our second doodle and she gets carsick!! If she is in the car for longer than an hour it seems, she throws up.  She gets foamy at the mouth as soon as she begins her car ride, and throwing up usually follows that.  I have plenty of time to deal with this issue, but I want to be prepared for it.......any suggestions about car sickness for dogs?  Spoke to the vet and they said sure there's meds for that or she may outgrow it.  Well, she will only just be turning 1 when we go in August and it's a 12 hour ride at least from Jersey.  Not bringing Stella is not an option.  Have you all done anything that works or used any particular medication that works and is safe for the dogs?  Sitting in the front for her doesn't work and by then she will be too big to sit in the front seat anyway.
