Newport, RI is Very Dog Friendly

We just spent a few days in Newport, and we found it to be a great "dog friendly" area.  We didn't bring the Doodles this time, because we really didn't know whether it would be a good place for them.  There were dogs everywhere...it seems to be a mecca for black Labs.  We found stores where the owner actually kept their dogs there with them....loved being greeted at the door by a big, beautiful Lab with a wagging tail and wet kisses.  There were dog water dishes outside almost every store, like this....

Our hotel allowed dogs, with a grassy area out back for them to "potty".  Most restaurants had outdoor seating where dogs were allowed (as long as they were well behaved).  This is a yachting and sailing town, and since many of the boats come with families and their dogs, I think the local merchants want to cater to these customers (who have lots of money to spend).  The only problem that I can see would be if it rained, and then the outdoor restaurant seating was closed.  Other than that, It's a great vacation spot to go with a Doodle.  We want to go back, and next time the boys will be with us.
