Wanted and Offerred:Suggestions of great, good and not so good places to walk our dogs on Beautiful British Columbia's North Vancouver Shore, (and beyond). To kick off; a fabulous park, especially for small dogs is Harbourside behind The Auto Mall (off Marine Drive). Cute little dogs paraded in wee outfits are such regular visitors to the park that owners soon learn each one by name. Everybody shares portable water containers, toys and balls. Dogs are welcome to sit on laps and share in treats. Owners unite in the face of unfriendly canine visitors! Plenty of grass, beach and picnic tables. Watch families of seals at play as you walk, watch the sun-set and the moon rise as the geese fly noisily home to roost. All set against Vancouver's amazing sky-line with it's lights reflecting in the Pacific Ocean. Dog fountain provided. A blind eye turned to On Leash notices.
A Perfect Sunday Morning; Watch eagles soar, swim turquoise pools, see rushing ravines and dappled sun-lit woods at Lynne Valley Headwaters, (off Lynne Valley Road). Approximately 50 minute loop, off leash. Park in the first car-park you come to, (furthest from the main car-park, picnic area and hut). Go down the steps, turn left. Cross the board-walks, (magical wooded area) takes you to the main car-park, picnic area and hut. Cross the wide bridge, turn right. Walk to second picnic area. Keep right. Where the path splits, go right, down the hill. Cross the skinny bridge, turn right. Walk down the wide road a couple of hundred yards. There's a path to your right, takes you down some steep steps. Follow the path until the end, turn left. Follow this path until you return to your original car-park, on left. (There's a couple of nice little beach areas on route where doggies can paddle). If you're the nervy type, sling a bear-bell on your pup and don't take a picnic!
Wow, look at all my responses! I will never have to refer to another book again! You wouldn't believe how many Vancouverites I've invited to these pages - enough to win a big, fat painting, but where are they all? You'd think I lived in a village!
Dear Barker's Mom, Thanks for your suggestions! As you can tell, we didn't get much of a response with this discussion -so yours is most welcome; we will definately check them out. We had one of the best days ever last weekend when we visited Goldie Lake, Cyprus Mountain. Finny had a blast swimming, running and fetching; splashing through the marsh land - and the walk to the lake was easy peezy. Enjoy the summer - picnic 'til you drop. Best, Finny's Mum.
Had a lovely walk around true Buntzen lake area in Port Moody. There is also a nice smallish off leash are a that fronts the lake. Nice trails around the lake too though, not all are dog friendly but some are and it's all very well sign posted.
