Seems as though our Sophie is on track to be a non-traditional doodle.  Not shedding much yet but anxious to see whether she will.  Didn't even think about that when we chose her.  How about everyone out there with a similar coated dog--how much do they shed?

Sophie sure is cute. She looks like our girl Murphy who is now 8 months old. Murph has gotten a little curlier but she's still pretty straight. She sheds a little bit but not bad at all. I think their coats continue to change throughout the first year.

My carlos has a straight coat as well and you could hardly pull a hair off of him until the day he turned 8 months old, I let him out of his crate that morning and the fur went flying! I couldn't believe it...literally overnight he began shedding like crazy! no different than a purebred Golden Retriever but I love him anyway. I chose a goldendoodle for the goofy personaltiy, cute look and trainability, not because they don't shed but it would have been a plus that's for sure!

So anyway don't get your hopes up because you never know when the shedding may start. I was so happy that even though mine ended up with a straight coat, he wasn't shedding! but like I said at 8 monrths, Carlos started shedding overnight and hasn't stopped since. He is now 16 months old.

Yep, Murphy is right on track then, started shedding more at 8 months. I thought it might be the change of season except we live in Southern California. It's still way less than my brother's lab and friend's German Shepard. We love her no matter what and also didn't get a GD just to avoid shedding. I enjoyed looking at your pictures of Carlos. He's so cute!! I do love the retriever look with a bit of scruff in the body, just like Murphy! :-)
Bailey has a crazy wavy coat.  she looks more golden than doodle..she is 5 months old and sheds a little.  Can't tell if it's just puppy fur or if she will always be a shedder...Love her anyway!

It's almost 3 months later and Murphy is now almost 11 months and boy does she shed! We just bought something called a "furminator" de-shedding tool and it really works remarkably! It removes all the dead undercoat which is primarily what sheds. I'm talking handfuls of undercoat. She doesn't mind it at all and just lays on the lawn while I brush her with it. There's a website for it showing video of it in action plus all the info about it. I highly recommend The Furminator!!

I've seen ads for that - been thinking of testing it out in the Spring.

It seems as if Luna has a white seasonal undercoat, we think it's seasonal, so we'll be in for a LOT of shedding in the Spring!  For now though - it's making her fur downy soft, very snuggly.

HI Debbie..Your puppy looks alot like our dog Gracie, and unfortunately...she sheds terribly, but we love her to death.  Seems like Gracie sheds year round. :(  We kind of knew it going in because she looked more lab than curly type poodle hair.  Sorry couldn't help more.
