I have Gunner from Sandy and Thad. He is an F1 and has allergies as well. I keep him off of chicken as he tends to be more itchy when there is chicken in the dog food. I also give him benadryl and a fish oil. He could have one benedryl every 8 hours, but he tends to only need it one time. The fish oil is supposed to help his skin and coat.
Hi AK!
Our 1st dog (a shihtzu) had horrible allergies as well. The vet wanted to put him on steroids and he was miserable on those as well. I looked for other options and found this company called N'Zymes online. Their philosophy is that the allergies are coming from a bad gut. I followed the regimen that they recommended and it worked. The itching and biting and redness stopped. Here is their site: poke around on it as it is really interesting! http://www.nzymes.com/store/pc/home.asp

I am not connected to this company at all. I just am sharing what I found to work for our dog. I HATED watching him go through this and was desperate. This is what I found and it worked!
Good luck!
I know I am late to this discussion, but my mini goldendoodle Toby suffers from terrible allergies as well (he's also gone through cancer at the age of 6 so he's experienced a lot of in his short life!). My vet prescribed these pills that are manufactured specifically for people who have had organ transplants so their bodies won't reject their new organs! After several months of taking this medication, I decided to change Toby's diet. I switched Toby to a grain-free food and don't give him any chicken. He's also taking fish oil, probiotics, coconut oil and raw goat's milk. It appears to be helping but he still bites his paws like crazy! I feel so bad for him. He's such a happy pup but has been tortured by itchy skin and allergies!
