It's kind of funny seeing Google's lush green imagery of Lakewood along with photos of doodles in the snow!

I always like seeing (and later being reminded of) the locations I was when photos were taken, so it's fun to merge the GPS tracklog with our walk.

Okay, I 'll check it out.  I had to take many geography courses the past few years.  Map Making, Cartography, GIS for information systems, so this book may have come up somewhere in all of that.  I'm getting so old, my memory is on OVER LOAD.

Just wanted to let you know, I APPRECIATE what you had done with your map   :)

Not a student..and though I guess I'm a person, I'm not a Geography person by profession.  Adding geographic information to photography just seems a natural extension to seeing the world and preserving our activities and adventures visually.  I've always thought that even Charles Minard's famous graphic of Napoleon's march of 1812 could be improved with a few clickable thumbnails!   If you haven't already read his many books, you might enjoy Edward Tufte's work on visualizing information, btw.

Interesting.  The only reason I was able to us ARC was that I was given a 1  year liscense to use the softeware.  After spending several years with ARC there is NO WAY I would purchase the base program for the $20.000 price. HA.

What we did was create a topo map, add the layers, then hyperlinked the photos.

Are you a Geography person/student?

I've never gotten around to posting things on Google Earth....I just occasionally create the KMZ to share with friends after a bike ride, kayak trip etc.  I create the KMZ using Lightroom 3 - it's a built-in feature.  I geoencode photos in Lightroom using Jeffery Friedl's plug-in, using a GPX file created from a DeLorme PN-40SE tracklog, or a Sony datalogger GPS-CS1 logfile converted to GPX for the plug-in.

The only mapping sw I play with is DeLorme's Topo and Google Earth.  Never tried the business oriented stuff.

Did you use a GIS program  such as ARC, on is this now on Google Earth too?

I've done this with a hand held GPS and photography.  It is a pretty neat tool to use.

btw, this is only a screenshot of the Google Earth display....it's interactive and cooler on Google Earth opening the KMZ file....can I upload that?
