Gave Toby a haircut by myself this week. (I didn't dare take him the groomer because they SHAVED him last time he had bad mats.) I need to tidy up a lot of loose ends, so to speak, but for our first attempt I think it came out kinda cute. :)

Oh my gosh, Toby is the cutest doodle I have ever seen!  I won't share that with Chewie though!

Thanks Amy! Let me know how it goes when you trim Marley! I can hardly wait to see a photo. :)

Dori - that's interesting about the touch. Toby luvvvs to get a massage, too, while he's watching a movie with us in bed.

Do any of your doodles watch TV? Toby is quite the movie critic. Sometimes I have to put a leash on him to keep him calm - especially if there are animals in it - even cartoon animals. His favorite movie is "A Dog's Year" with Jeff Bridges. He will watch that one over and over again from start to finish. It's funny... he always growls in a scene where Jeff's daughter tiptoes into the house. Apparently he finds her body language suspicious. There's another actor whose name escapes me that Toby recognizes and growls at in EVERY movie he's in. He must have played a suspicious character once and Toby remembers it. He's such an unusual dog... haha!

Linda, as I was reading and studying up on the internet before we got Rua, it said to get your puppy used to touch right away.  Being able to touch between their paws, ears, mouth, etc.  I also read about the benefits of massaging puppies...so we now start out with "Zen Puppy" time every morning.  After morning potty, she will get into bed with me and sit on my chest (still can do this now since she is only 11 lbs).  If my DH takes her out, as soon as she is back inside, she runs upstairs and around to my side of the bed and starts pogo jumping!  I give her a little puppy massage and she just zens out while I do it.  I LOVE this time.

Thanks, Lucy! You're so sweet. YOUR doodles always look adorable. Do you groom them yourself or take them somewhere?

Thanks, Linda. I always groom the doodles when they are dry but then I rarely bathe them. Don't know if having them wet would work for me . I generally hold batches of hair between the fingers of one hand and cut with the other. I'm really careful when I get near sensitive ares since I rather nick myself then them. It does always grow out: ) Right now Calla's ear flaps are a little short.

Dori - it sounds like you have a wonderful daycare/groomer. I'm curious... did you read/learn about "Touch" in a book? It must be wonderful to have such a cooperative doodle!!! Toby hides under the bed the moment he realizes it's bath time. I wash him in the shower, and he stands very quietly, but he's not a fan of getting wet. (He won't go anywhere near a pool!) I was impressed that he let me blow dry him this week. Usually he runs from it. Probably because it's winter and the slightly warm air felt good. Or maybe because he's getting a little older and less afraid of things. :)

I absolutely love this picture! Toby is adorable and his little face holds so much expression :) You did a FANTASTIC job grooming him. I am going to try the 'wet cut' and thinning shears trick for Marley's next trim!

Linda, when I was checking out a daycare place for Rua, they also did grooming.  I asked the owner if they did Doodles, and they did...in fact, they had one there in daycare that day.  She told me that the first time there, Rua will be there for 4 hours...without me!  They will work really slowly with her to get her used to grooming.  I really liked their approach, and once it is time for her first real cut, I'll bring in Toby's picture (they have, without charge, done around her eyes, her potty area, and her pads)!

As you know, when you bring a new puppy into your life, things change immensely.  I did lots of reading...studied different methods...and then Rua arrived, and I found out that she didn't read the same things I did and it all of a sudden became all about her!  Many good intentions go down the drain (for example, 1 small 10x10 space to use for potty...heck...it turned into WHEREEVER she wanted to pee and poo as long as it was IN the yard and didn't require being outside in the cold for long)!  One of the things that I did actually get right was TOUCH!  She will let me rub and touch her all over.  I can set her on the washer and clean her ears and she won't fuss.  I can clear out her eye junk...no problem.  She LOVES getting a bath (and will join us in our open walk-in shower) and will let me blow-dry her (kinda...she gets the zoomies and runs back and forth past the dryer)!

I can brush her...but I need to work on having her just stand and let me...right now, she wants to bite the brush.  Hopefully, one of these days, I can groom her myself (please note...my husband, a FRUGAL [read as cheap] Swede would rather send money and go to the barber than let me near him with the Wahl clippers!  LOL

No wonder they always look so cute, F Parker! I should have tried this ages ago!

Thanks, Nancy! I used a pair of sharp (people) hair cutting scissors and did it while his hair was damp. Just kind of held it up and snipped about 2" off. (Used thinning shears between and above his eyes.) I was afraid the clippers would cut his hair too short and would get caught in his mats.

He looks adorable!  Great job!  I'm not sure you could do much to him that would make him anything other than adorable though!
