Thanks for the tips.....I will see if I can get Gopher Sticks. My dog eats poop, so filling with poop is out.
Snickers also like to try to eat rocks, so rocks are out. Ugh. Grrrrr lol
Ohhh...thanks!
Sierra, the best way to actually get feedback is to post a discussion on the main page. Scroll down til you see add a discussion. You can add photos to that also.
We have two spots - one is at the bottom of our hill and I fill it and put rocks AND a lawn chair on it - obviously I'm not that interested in how fancy my yard looks. :-} The other spot is on our grass. We have tried burying poop and the gopher stick. I really think the gopher stick works, but I am always on guard for those spots because he goes after them several times a year. Once Clancy digs, Ned and Charlie join in and I have three with muddy noses and paws. Grrrr
There are a several ideas suggested to me. I've tried a couple.
Blow up a balloon to bursting point, bury it lightly in the hole so that when they dig again it will pop and startle them into giving up the digging.
Use the hole to bury poop in the theory that the dog won't want to dig where they poop.
Fill in the hole and set a mousetrap just under the surface - same startle as the balloon.
Fill in the hole and place something on top of it - rocks, lawn chair etc. discouraging that spot.
Purchase one of those battery operated gopher 'discourager' sticks that supposedly emit a vibration, follow directions for installation ( bury in the hole, pack dirt tightly around, leave top above ground). (I think this really works at least for a while and they are cheap.)
Certain plants discourage critters like rabbits or snails, maybe they would discourage diggers too???
My dogs - well, instigated by Clancy, have a couple of places that they go to periodically dig - I swear they are digging at some roots from old plants that do something they like during parts of the year!
I have 3 holes in my back yard now. Ugh.
