I am secretly the master as well, also to DH but he does not realized this (ha ha).

Yes, the DHs do become their toy!  That is what mine is to Gracie but I do love that she is equal to both of us even though I am really (secretly) her master!!!!

Yes, the biggest issue here is the cost. they are mucho grande $$$ and I don't really want to waste $75 or more on something I can't use. I know of know one locally that has doodles AND the LP (ha ha) but of course I haven't asked.

I did see the discussion on Grooming between Ricki and Barb but I am just not sure of her coat...I think it would be considered wooley and dense, so much so that she really doesn't get long, she just curls. Now her legs are long and and wavey, I use a comb and a regular slicker brush for those.

Gracie is such a wonderful dog....I can tell you love her as much as we love our Daisy. Sometimes I wonder how I managed without her for so long. We like to say she is our Joy! At first she was totally my dog, that lasted about 2 weeks and the DH took over. He is her big ole toy!

Hi Lisa,  Yes, I have tried the "chuck it" balls but Gracie only likes the tennis balls.  I do use the Kong brand because they say they are not abrasive like real tennis balls.  They squeak which she loves but don't hold up as long...not a problem because her teeth are more important.  The chuck it balls are hard solid balls and she loves to smoosh them in her mouth and chew and chew on them and squeak them.  I think that is the thrill of the ball the being able to compress them.  She is so silly and really smart.  When we are out playing ball with all the neighbor dogs who have the real thing (we call those tennis balls "chocolate" whereas her Kong balls are lettuce).  She will take the chocolate ball every time and drop the lettuce ball.  She steals balls from all the neighbors lawns and then hides the in our back yard so when she is out there and we are not aware of what she is doing, she is using the chocolate!!!  Sneaky sneaky girl!  There was just a discussion about the LP brushes yesterday in the Grooming Group between Ricki (Tara) and Barb (Gemstone Labs).  I hate, hate the LP brush, Nancy (Ned and Clancy) and Barb love them.  It depends on the coat.  Gracie is a very soft wavy fleece and not thick or dense.  The brush scratches her skin and she hates it.  I keep  hitting my hand and poking holes and bleeding.  It is a lethal weapon when in my hands!!!!  I just use the CC pin brush but for the most part the rotating teeth combs.  I think the LP brushes work best on the ALDs and the really wooly, frizzy, brillo pad looking Doodles.  It is probably near impossible to get to the skin with those type coats.  That is what Ned is and so Nancy uses it all the time.  I gave her my old LP and ordered a new lesser stiffness one and still Gracie hates it.  Lots of money wasted!!  But, there are people who absolutely swear by them.  You would have to look at a picture of their Doodle and I bet anything they have the more wooly, dense coat.  Also, if you keep your Doodle relatively short the LP brush would hurt them.  Better for the 3" or longer length which Gracie never gets to.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for the compliment on the photo!

Hi Nancie, just wondering have you tried the "chuck it" balls....Daisy loves them. I only asked because you said you were trying to not use tennis balls.

Also, since you groom gorgeous Gracie at home do you happen to use the LePouche brush (sorry can't remember how to spell that) and if you do is it all that you had hoped for?
