Hi, Joanna!  Re: your concern about Maya's behavior.  Just as you seem to be, we were disappointed with our Sydney as a puppy.  She bit my hands so badly, they looked liked I put them in a meat grinder.  I was embarrassed to tell people that my puppy did this to me.  She wouldn't let us even take a tissue out of her mouth without a growl followed by snapping at our hands.  It took some patience and time.  Sydney is now 9 years old and is so affectionate.  I read the book "What Color is Your Dog?".  It was the best read for our training with Sydney.  Sydney responded very well to lots of gentle touching.  Now she purrs like a cat when we pet her and wouldn't ever want to disappoint us in anyway.  Be patient with Maya.  You will be very surprised once she has your trust and gets past the puppy stage.  She truly will be your BFF!  We have two Doodles and each have very different personalities, they are like children.  They are not just dogs, they are Doodles - no other dog breed can ever come close to the bonds we have developed with our Doodles.  We hope you will find the love and connection with Maya that we have with Sydney and Olivia.  Best to you and Maya - she is VERY ADORABLE!  On other thing, Doodles are very, very smart.  She may also be testing you and trying to train you!!!!!!
