WELCOME TO HAIRY'S HOMEPAGE

Profile Information

About Me:
I have had a dog almost all my life, university years being the main exception. I can date events by which dog was present. I expect my new puppy, Hairy, to keep me well exercised and to provide good stories to tell. I love walking and just need an intelligent companion and protector.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Hairy is a fourteen week old fifth generation Labradoodle, chocolate-cafe colour and a delightful, curious person whose inclination is to love every living creature he meets, no matter how many legs it has. Hairy inherits a special place held by a long stream of dogs, the last four of whom were Great Danes. My step son Andrew's labradoodle, Snoopy, whom I first met about 25 years ago, inspired me to have a doodle when it was no longer practical to have a pair of Danes.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
We usually had shepherd mixes while I was growing up. I loved them but they were my dad's dogs and I really did not train them myself. When I married I began with Chiquita, a Sydney Silky, a small dog that my husband might not notice or object to. Little did I know that my husband would be as devoted to our dogs as I am. From there, our dogs grew in size: Dandy was our Boston Terrier who was soon paired with our Boxer, Socks. Sally was our first Dane, and a beautiful black one she was. Topsy, a Marmaduke sort of a Dane, joined Sally who by living to over 12 years old, was still with us when Frank, another black came along. Emily, a blue Dane, was our quirky girl. Again our black Dane had longevity, making almost 12 years. Finding a dog to follow the wonderful Frank was a real challenge that required two years of research, thought and family debate. Now I am retired and want the company of a bright intelligent dog, but perhaps a Dane is too big for this stage of life. I am delighted with the energy, joie de vivre and intelligence of my Hairy. He is a constant surprise, like a baby with accelerated development. And now I discover that Hairy loves the rain and does not mind going for walks in it. How good is that?
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Train him. Play with Kong or water or a dry leaf he finds in the garden. Take him to visit friends, especially children who are just learning to make relationships with animals. Soon I will train him as a companion animal and visit aged care facilities with him.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
So far, me.

Hi Judith. In 2001, I read an article about this fabulous dog being bred in Australia. I ordered a pet puppy from Rutland Manor and fell in love immediately. Within months I bought four breeding dogs from Rutland Manor (one was in whelp) and that was the beginning of Australian Labradoodles in Maine. Thanks for asking.

What??? You met a labradoodle (Snoopy) 25 years ago? Wow! I did not even know they have been around that long. But I guess if you live in Australia, that is possible. I only heard of them about 6 years ago when I needed a replacement for our shephard who died leaving a distraught standard poodle in need of company. Tell me more about the history of doodles please.

Hi Judith...
Hi! Regarding voting/rating photos/logos. When you look at the INDIVIDUAL logos...are you able to see some STARS under the left hand corner of each photo? If you do see some stars that show you the average rating it has so far (how many stars out of a total of 5 it has been rated on average). Well under the RIGHT hand side of the same photo you can click on the number of stars YOU want to give it. See pic below:

So in essence you VOTE by giving it a STAR rating (5 stars is the highest rating you can give) by clicking on the number of stars you thinks it deserves.

Welcome to Doodle Kisses. It is a super website for sharing about our best friends. I am newly retired (in June) and love having time to spend with my dogs. What did you do before retiring? I was an elementary school teacher.

Ohhhh how cute! Hairy, what a great name, he's soooo cute. Is he from Pippa or Maddy's litter? I just brought home Lacey from Ellie's litter. She is such a beautiful little girl. She is starting to get along with her big brother, also from Ellie (last litter). We just love them, hard not to fall in love don't you think? Welcome to doodle kisses for doodle obsessed people hehe!! : )
