Welcome to Doodlekisses Kathleen. Have fun meeting everyone and exploring a great site. Lots of great information. Make sure you check out all the various groups.
Hi Kathleen ~ I love the name Spirit and she is very cute! When you get a chance be sure to check out the groups section and join as many as you like. There is a terrific group called Puppy Madness which is terrific for new puppy owners.
I have a terrific book written by Jan Fennell called The Puppy Listener (you can get it at Amazon) and it was really a big help when I got Charlie. You probably know that biting and nipping a puppy is not aggression, she is just trying to hold on, as she did when playing with her littermates. The key to stopping it, is to not make a drama out of it, Give a little yelp just like another puppy would, then immediately walk away. If puppy choses to chase after you and try to grab your pant leg, or ??, just gently pick him up and give him a short time out (20 minutes or so) in his crate, or behind baby gate. This is positive training and they usually understand fairly quickly that you are not going to tolerate the biting and nipping. It can be a frustrating time, but it too will pass, and one day you wake up and your little girl is all grown up! Hope this will help. Welcome to Doodle Kisses!
