Lori, I can promise you that Oliver doesn't have any food allergies or any real digestive problems related to food. For one thing, he's too young for any allergies to have developed. For another, allergies NEVER manifest as digestive upsets, even food allergies. This is an absolute fact. Giardia can be tough for a young puppy to get rid of, and the tests can come up negative even when they have it; there have to be active cysts present in the stool specimen to get a positive read. They can also reinfect themselves in the yard. The best treatment is Panacur, a powder that is mixed into canned food for three days. If there are any more issues with diarrhea, I'd have the vet run another stool specimen and if he comes up positive, ask for Panacur.
Why does the vet think that he needs a gluten free food? Have they given you a reason for that? And are they talking about any gluten, or only wheat gluten? Is rice okay? The vets really know next to nothing about nutrition or diets, OR allergies, and the young vets without experience are the worst. And avoid Banfield like the plague...they're owned by Mars corporation.
Ollie's been eating garbage since he was weaned from his mother. The antibiotics also destroyed the good flora in his intestinal tract, which contributed to the diarrhea. The Natural Balance is a fine food, but if you want to go grain-free, your absolute best choices are Orijen Puppy formula or EVO Puppy. Acana is a great choice, too if you can find it. Whichever you choose to try, start by adding a quarter of the total meal worth of the new food and decrease the RC by that amount gradually over a week's time, increase the new as you decrease the old. If you find that Oliver only wants the new food, that's okay. Give him a spoonful of plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling!) with his meals. Plain yogurt will help, too. Is Oliver eating any treats?

Lori, I just checked the ingredients in the RC HP food...you can do much better. I need a history of the foods that Oliver has been on as far back as possible, and a history of his symptoms that caused the vet to put him on a hypo-allergenic food with no animal protein. You are paying a fortune for soy protein and indigestible plant fiber.
I am the resident DK expert in canine allergies, as well as the commercial food expert, lol. We can find you a much healthier & more satisfying method of feeding Oliver for less money
