Why does the vet think that he needs a gluten free food? Have they given you a reason for that? And are they talking about any gluten, or only wheat gluten? Is rice okay? The vets really know next to nothing about nutrition or diets, OR allergies, and the young vets without experience are the worst. And avoid Banfield like the plague...they're owned by Mars corporation.
Ollie's been eating garbage since he was weaned from his mother. The antibiotics also destroyed the good flora in his intestinal tract, which contributed to the diarrhea. The Natural Balance is a fine food, but if you want to go grain-free, your absolute best choices are Orijen Puppy formula or EVO Puppy. Acana is a great choice, too if you can find it. Whichever you choose to try, start by adding a quarter of the total meal worth of the new food and decrease the RC by that amount gradually over a week's time, increase the new as you decrease the old. If you find that Oliver only wants the new food, that's okay. Give him a spoonful of plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling!) with his meals. Plain yogurt will help, too. Is Oliver eating any treats?
