Profile Information

About Me:
My husband and I, along with our adorable labradoodle Spencer, live in Montclair, NJ. I am an attorney in NYC and he (the husband...not the dog) is a lighting designer.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Spencer is a 1+ year old Australian Labradoodle. He is everything we were hoping for in our first dog, and then some. Full of love and energy, it's hard to imagine what life was life before he joined us.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
We fell in love with the personality, shaggy non-shedding coat, and sweet face of this breed.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Long walks/explorations in our nearby reservation, playing soccer in the backyard, and cuddling.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
Olivia's Dog Parlor in Montclair, NJ. They're terrific (albeit mighty pricey).
Favorite Doodle Products?
Frozen marrow bones from the butcher; nylabones; any indestructible toys (which we're finding are few and far between. . . Spencer's teeth can surgically dismantle even the "toughest" products).
Relationship Status:
Married

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for asking for a brush recommendation for Spencer. The majority of Labradoodle owners do experience an increase in matting of their dog’s coat starting at around 10 months old and lasting a few months. This is when most Labradoodles go through their coat change from puppy to adult coat. Spencer appears to have a wavy fleece coat (beautiful!). The fleece coat is very desirable because it does not shed. But one downside of the Fleece Coat is that when the dog goes through his coat change, because the puppy coat does not shed out, it must be either stripped out by hand or clipped off to avoid the puppy coat from matting with the new adult growth coming through. The Les Poochs brush is excellent at helping to strip out the old puppy coat and eliminating mats.

Based on Spencer’s coat type, thickness and overall size, I recommend using the Les Poochs Wide Sized Purple brush. The Purple brush has a Firm flex and it is best used on doodles with thick fleece coats. You may also want to include a Regular Sized Green brush for his ears, tail and paws. It is often more convenient to use a smaller brush for those “narrow” areas. The Green brush also provides more flex needed for those delicate spots.

Recommended:
Les Poochs Wide Sized Purple Brush
Les Poochs Regular Sized Green Brush (optional addition)

We also have the complete line of Les Poochs bathing products and detangler.
Thank you so much for your question Michelle. If you have further questions please feel free to contact me any time at kemp@doodlecountry.com

Warm Regards,
Kemp

Hi Michelle -

Kemp runs the Doodle Country store & I'll make sure he sees your Les Poochs brush question. He's out at the moment with two of the dogs at the park, but he should be getting back with you shortly. I am sure he'll be able to help you & Spencer.

So that you have it, his direct e-mail is kemp@doodlecountry.com .

Warm regards,

- Tom

Spencer looks alot like Aiden too. Did his fur lighten with age? Aiden's fur looks like it is lighter down at the root. What does that mean. Is he going to loose that pretty creamy orange highlight color?

Otto and Spencer have the same parents.....I guess that means they're brothers, just from a different litter. I love the look of Spencer, and I hope that's what Otto looks like when he's older. I think he's going to be very fleecy. Some of the other pups in the litter were definitely curlier.

Have a good day.

Hi Michelle! I noticed one of your comments is from Pam McCarl. Did you get Spencer from her? I just got my Otto from her a little over a week ago. Spencer is so so cute.

Hi Michelle - my name is Kate and my doodle is Maci and we live in Pompton Plains. I just wanted to invite you to join a group I created called "Jersey Doodles". I created the group so that NJ doodle owners could locate/connect with other doodles in their area for mini-romps, etc. Hope you join! Be sure to post some pictures of your doodle - we all love to see what everyone's baby looks like.

Welcome Michelle! Do you have a doodle of your own or are you awaiting a pup?
