Personally, I do not believe in a resistant strain of giardia. I have two ML puppies. We picked Charlie up Feb 2011 and he did not have giardia. I did a lot of research on ALDs prior to putting down a deposit and I liked ML's breeding stock. Charlie is 7th generation ALD - Kim purchased his grandfather directly from Australia. I believe she still has excellent breeding stock and does know what she is doing when it comes to breeding. That being said In Oct 2012, we picked up Beau (our parti doodle) He has the same dad as Charlie but a different mother. Beau did have giardia - and I was off the charts vigil about where he was going potty. Cleaned up immediately and doused the area with Clorox.
Hi Paul ~ welcome to Doodle Kisses. Your Ziggy is off the charts cute. I am sorry he came with giardia. I have two ALDs - Charlie & Beau. Beau (our parti ALD) came home with giardia. It took us two rounds of antibiotics and me being off the charts vigilant in cleaning up - I always went outside with him and picked up after he went pooh and then poured a clorox/water mixture I kept on hand in plastic jugs. I was so worried our older doodle would get it too, but he never did. After the second antibiotic run, I took Beau back for testing at 2 week intervals (3 times) before my vet declared him giardia free. That was a celebration! I hope your doodle is on the mend and you will no longer have this issue. I would suppose the mild weather in your area does not help. Again, welcome to this site.
