Will be a first time owner of a Golden Doodle tomorrow. Going to the airport to pick her up. Our family had a golden retriever for almost 18 years and loved her so much. We are looking forward to having another "family member" who is part Golden again.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
We have (will have as of Nov. 1, 2011) an F2b mini Golden Dooddle, whose name is going to be decided this evening, as well as a full time indoor kitty and two outdoor kitty's whom we have rescued.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
As mentioned before, we had a Golden retriever mixed with more that likely a cocker spaniel for two weeks shy of 18 years and thought she was the best, sweetest, most beautiful dog ever! Because she was a mix of a regular sized golden and a smaller dog, she was small herself weighing in at a whopping 25lbs. at her heaviest. Her personality and disposition were so fun yet gentle. She has been gone for two years now and we have four children growing up with out a pup in the home so we decided it was time to begin looking. The Golden doodle breed had been recommended to us by a dog trainer who knows our family and what we would love in a pet. Upon her recommendation, we began our search and quickly found our new little baby girl.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
It's cold up here...and I'm thinking about how nice it would be to be at our home in South Carolina! (smile)
I'll get the grooming pic out to you as soon as i can and will send you the name of the clipper and shears and also great grooming "helps" when you need them.
Kaycee is just a "baby" and won't be going through her coat change until around 6-8 months or so. That's when you will need to do/ more regarding the grooming to prevent or deal with mats. You'll read about that too. (smile)
It's really good to get them used to being combed and brushed now...which you know from having a Golden.
Yes...that is interesting about Sommer...
My understanding is that she now owns that shop and does grooming there too.
I really do like that shop and get Sasha's Fromm and the Evanger canned food for the topper there. With the Fromm...once you purchase 12 bags...you get the next bag free...which is nice too.
How big will Kaycee get? I think you said she was a mini...so she would need puppy...not large breed puppy. It would go by how large they will be.
Remember to type in any questions in the "search box" at the top right of your home page...and you will get past discussions about topics you might like to learn about.
Wow...what a cutie pie Kaycee is! I just love her beautiful face Tina...
I will send you the pic of how to groom...and if you decide to groom yourself...I can send you the clippers and shears that I have. Just let me know.
About what to feed...
First I would suggest you join the Food Group...and read...read...read! Lol...
You will find out a lot of Great information on what foods are best and why.
Then you can make a well informed decision.
I feed Sasha Fromm Grain Free Surf and Turf and for a change of pace Fromm Grain Free Beef Fritatta and Veggie. It's a very good food on the recommended list
You'll see what I mean once you join the food group... (smile)
I do put a topper on it...such as a hard boiled egg...or a tbs. of a good grain free canned food that I get in a little shop called The Wet Nose Oasis. The shop is great and you would love it!
Grain free isn't necessary...and Fromm has some very good food with grain too.
There are other good brands also...
After you join the group and do some reading...we can chat a bit if you like.
They do settle down in their crates...so be patient.
Sasha still loves her crate...and wants to sleep in it every night!
She feels safe and cozy in there...
I groom Sasha myself...but there is a great place called Bows and Bandannas. It's by the Walgreens in Balentine. I took Sasha there once after being in the lake all summer and she needed to get cut really short. They do a great job. I highly recommend them.
I can send you a picture of "how to groom a doodle" if you need one. Just let me know.
What kind of food are you feeding her? Let me know if you found a good place to shop for food and treats. I know of some great places and can tell you about them.
Congratulations!
