MONDAY MORNING IN THE WHELPING BOX
Morning light paints the nursery buttery yellow.
One week old puppies sunbathe in the warmth, suckling Glory's milk.
I sit in the whelping box
touching silky heads the color of butterscotch,
and thank God for their lives and mine
awash in contentment.
