Urgent breakouts can happen at any time and at any place. Sometimes it is difficult to detect the problems with your hairy friends. Issues like non-productive retching, difficulty in passing urine, breathing problems, bleeding, non-responsiveness, diarrhea, etc. need to be looked out for.
You should always be prepared for an emergency. Whether it’s keeping the first aid kits ready or placing the urgent and important numbers on your bulletin board, things should be easy to access even when an emergency occurs in the middle of the night.
Here are five ways you must know in order to ensure that your pet is taken care of during an emergency breakout whether you are there or not.
1. ID The Pet At All Times
Always have a collar on your pet. The name card should include your name and number. The name tags help encounter the owner, just in case an emergency protrudes.
The name tag on your pet makes it easier for other people to know that the pet is yours. For example, if your pet goes out of the house for a walk or runs out of your hands, bringing the pet back to you will be easier. Without the collar or name tag, it might get tough for any person to know who the owner is and how to contact the person.
2. Pet Insurance And ATM Card For Prompt Cash
Ensure that you had chosen the best insurance plan for your pet, when you had to. If you have insured your pet, then keep the pet insurance details with you and a photocopy of the same at home.
In case you are traveling or if you are out somewhere with your pet and abruptly your pet seems ill, you can take them to the nearest pet clinic. You never know what kind of emergency will be at knocking your doorstep. You should have your pet’s insurance details and an ATM card in your purse or wallet for instant cash withdrawal during an emergency.
Pet Insurances saves your money, covers a maximum number of pet issues and the problems that occur after the insurance has been purchased. Having an ATM card and your pet’s insurance proof will make it somewhat convenient for you to pay for your pets’ care and medication after an urgent requirement.
3. Sign Board On Doors Or Windows
In case you leave your pet at home alone, remember to drop a pair of spare keys with a reliable neighbor, friend and/or any family relative. You should additionally have a sign board from within the house stating,“In the case of a fire breakout at home or any other urgency, call on the numbers provided and save the pet, if possible”.
The sign or the sticker should incorporate details like the number of pets, breed, the color of the pets, their names and so on. This will make it easier for the rescuer to search for the pet or pets in your house.
4. Ensure That The Dependable People Have Access To Your Home
Just in case, if you cannot get to your home within time, you can ask a trusted contact to reach your house and check on your pet. Leaving spare keys with your well-known neighbor or friend and a family member will do.
This way, your trusted contact can rush to your house and save your troubled pet and take it to the nearest pet emergency center. It is preferable that your trusted contact is comfortable around your pet and knows your pet so that no other crisis piles on.
5. First Aid Kit For Your Pet
You would be having your own first aid kit at your house and in the vehicle. But if you have a pet, it is advisable to have a kit for them as well. The kit box should be kept in an easily accessible place for emergency purposes.
The first aid kits for your pet should include the basic items like the vet’s numbers, nearest emergency clinic with directions, pet first aid booklet, medical records of your pet, extra leash, gauze rolls, antiseptic wipes or lotion, etc. If you can’t reach your pet due to any reason, inform the person who has your keys to visit your house immediately or as soon as they can. Remember to tell them about the pet’s first aid kit.
It is better late than never. Saving your pet in any way possible is the best gift for any pet. Keep a track of your pet’s behavior towards you or other people and when they are left alone. For this, you can install tiny cameras in the house. This will help to keep an eye on your pets when they are alone.
