Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

After the stress of ending the week by being told by my husband that our two doodles got into a fight with each other, I was a bit worried about how this weekend was going to be - he is working all weekend and I am home with the dogs, just them and me. Today they played in the garden, very boistrous but still it was playing and nothing else. Then we went for a lovely long hike together. I like to hike "hands free" and when we had just the one dog tie his leash around may wait for a more comfortable walk. When we got there things were going good so I decided to gove it a go - both leashes around my waist, both dogs on my left and off we went. They were awesome, both trotting along next to each other without any problems, and no pulling!!

Our older dog is still having issues with having the puppy in the back of the car with him, so we have been having to travel with them separated. As the walk had gone so well, I jumped them both into the back of the car for a drink. They both seemed pretty relaxed so I got brave and closed the door. I then ran to the rear passenger seat to sit and watch them. I had to give Hartley (the older of the two) a couple of corrections when he began lifting his lip and growling. Once things settled down and they relaxed, I took Chase out of the back and onto his current spot on the back seat. I thought I would quit while I was ahead and take that as a victory. With a half hour drive home on the highway, I didn't want to take the risk of them fighting in the back of the car. (Hopefully, one day my husband and I will have time off together so one of us can sit in the back seat and watch the two of them in the trunk until they get used to travelling together).

They both crashed and slept when we got home, and were great on our evening walk also. So, I have hope that things will improve and they will eventually be friends (I just bought an SUV with a huge trunk, so they had better travel together in there or I'll take my economical Golf back please!!!).

GREAT news Stella! You did a great job of not pushing it with the backseat. When Kona was young she had the front seat next to me for a while before I put them together in the back. I was afraid she would get crushed :) But is also didn't push them into too close a contained space right away. Look forward to more happy weekend stories.

It will be better with time - Hartley just has to make sure that he gets the respect he thinks he deserves :((((((
