I was so prepared...Princess party hat (with streamers!), princess dishes (for my little ones) and a glittery red number 1 candle. The day was sunny, if frigid, and we were going to party with lots of presents we had been buying for a few weeks. Then, while at a pre-season baseball drill session for my son, my car window was shattered and a thief got away with my purse (opted to leave it in the car as with four children, all the coats, the baseball gear and the fact that we would be moving from one gym to the other I had thought it would be safest in the car...boy, was I wrong). Ever drive home at night in minus 20 degrees--without wind chill, that is--with no window and four scared children? Not the stuff parties are made of. Poor Phoebe took it like a trooper even when we tossed the hat on her head for some fast pictures (in between calls to the ton of credit card companies and such we had to make). With the children back to school today, I took her on a nice walk despite the frigid temps and all was better....at least for Phoebe!

Oh wow, what a downer, but there is a bright side to this, you were not in the car, neither were the kids or Pheobe, and no one was hurt. Things are just that, things, and they can be replaced...You took care of the credit stuff, and that is the most important issue. He didn't get your keys, so that is good, but I just might have the locks changed on the house if he knows your address from your wallet. And if u have an alarm on the house change the code if u had it written anywhere in your purse. that is what the police told me a long time ago when something similar happened to me. I am sure that Phoebe still had her party, and that was good for the kids, you and her...

So sorry about that...I am glad everyone is okay though and you weren't around and in the car.

This must have been awful, but a good lesson for me. I sometimes leave my purse in the car if I'm out with Guinness. It's easier to manage him on the leash without carrying the purse. I won't be doing that anymore. Hopefully everything will turn out fine and the thief won't try to use any of your credit cards. I'm sue Phoebe was just fine with her "scaled back party".

So sorry to hear this happened. Been there a couple times myself and I know the feeling of violation! It stinks for a long time. However, depending on what all you had in your purse you might want to consider putting a block on your credit reports. That way no one can request credit in your name without you knowing it. The first time this happened to me I was on a business trip and had just gotten a bunch of cash from my ATM the day before for tips and things like that while travelling. My homeowners reimbursed the cash to me so you might check with yours if you had much cash.

OMGoodness that is terrible. I can't even imagine how scared you and the kids were. Glad you are all OK.

I am so sorry! That just plain sucks! I hope that Phoebe had a fantastic party in spite of a stupid human!
The only saving grace is that no one got hurt!! Things get replaced. Yeah, I know, I am older and I definitely see life through different eyes! But not always.....
I had my car broken into in Philadelphia, while visiting the in-laws, 20+ years ago. All they got was some lousy Sesame Street cassette tapes. It was winter also. We had to drive home 100 miles with a plastic trash bag covering where the front, passenger window used to be. I was so scared and angry at the violation of my property. It was eye opening - that's for sure! Now that I think about it I am not sure I replaced those Sesame Street cassettes. I am sure my human girls hold that against me too. LOL!!!!

I am so sorry for you. It is awful to lose you purse and all of the stuff you carry in it. I am sure Phoebe enjoyed the walk much more than the aborted party.

Oh... I am so sorry this happened to you!! It must have been so scary!!
This exact thing happened to one of secretaries at work few years back. They said that theives watch women leave their vehicle without their purses, especially at children's event. Because they know we will be there for awhile!

What an upsetting event. I'm sure you felt so violated and the poor kids! At least none of you were there for the event itself. i hope things only get better in the new year for you all.
