When we picked our Molly girl up, we were so excited to get her home...we didn't even give the car ride home much thought.
We said goodbye to the breeder, loaded Molly into the back seat of the truck -on a towel- and started down the road.
She started to panic, so I climbed into the back seat with her. DH had just made it onto the interstate when I recognized the familiar look on Mollys face...the look every puppy dog gets when they are about to throw up.
DH was in the far left lane and instincts told me I didn't have time for him to change lanes and exit the interstate, before I knew what I was doing, my hands were cupped beneath my new puppies mouth as she deposited her last meal.
It was disgusting...but oddly enough-and maybe this is how a mother feels about her child- I wasn't as grossed out as I would have thought. I calmly told my husband to take the next exit asap. At first I thought about tossing my hands out of the window...but then I realized the cars behind me would probably not appreciate that. So I waited, hands together, sick puppy laying in my lap, my own nose out of the car window trying to avoid the smell, until we exited.
We never thought about it being our Mollys first car ride...EVER!
It took a few car rides with me playing cath the doggy throw up with a trash bag, before Molly appears to FINALLY be over her car sickness!! HURRAY!!!
This past weekend was the second time she was car sickness free, as we traveled an hour north to spend time with our friends!

I was a little worried for Molly when everyone agreed to spend our Saturday out on the lake. All of the other dogs were joining in on the boating fun, but I was concerned for Mollys motion sickness. I decided to take the chance and I'm so glad I did, she LOVED the boat! She had a blast running around with the other dogs. She wasn't too sure about the water, once we stopped and were all in and swimming. She clung to my DH like a wet rat, but she loved standing on the edge of the boat and watching the water.
It was also her first real time meeting other doggies - besides her doggy brother Ali- and she did super! She spent the weekend hanging out with two great danes and four small chihuaha mixes (quite a yappy bunch!).
I love puppy hood and getting to watch my girl experience all that dogs can in this world.

Well, Molly really gave you a memorable moment for your trip home!  It sounds like you all had a great time hanging out with your friends and Molly with hers.

Jane-I def. think if our breeder had taken the pups for car rides before we got her, she would have been fine.  I really think it's a mix of nerves and just not being familiar with a moving car that got her so worked up and sick.  Our breeder lived out in the middle of nowhere on a farm, the pups had a great area to run and play...but never really even saw cars, unless someone was coming out to visit the kennel.  So vehicles in general made her a tad nervous.

I'm glad she's over it though! We travel a LOT and plan on taking her everywhere we can :)

YEs! Catching doggy throw up was not fun, lol...but more than anything I was just worried and sad for her :(  I knew my DH didn't want dog throw up in his truck, LoL!

I give you major credit!!  I never would have been able to make that "catch" with my hands. Yuck!

Wonderful that she seems to have the car sickness behind her!  It would be very limiting to have a dog that can't ride well in the car, although I have a cat who while he doesn't throw up - screams - for hours.  Rooney's breeder took his entire litter for rides all of the time as part of their socializtion - I wonder if Molly had ridden sooner if it would have happened or not.  Love that puppy stage - it doesn't last!

That's wonderful that Molly seems to be over her car sickness and is really enjoying life.  Great story and gives me great hope for my new puppy.
