Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

HELP, we are having a terrible time.  About three weeks ago our doodle came home from a walk with a cut tail.  Not sure how it happens, she plays every day with a lab (same age) and two more doodles.  They do get quite boisterous, but when she came into the house there was blood everywhere.  My husband took her to the vet and she had a four inch cut on her tail which required suturing and a dressing and cone applied.  I couldn't bare putting the plastic cone on her so I used an inflatable one and that worked quite well. However, as soon as she was feeling better off came the dressing, not once but three times. The vet insisted on a very large cone so she couldn't reach it.  However, she found a way.  To make a long story short, it is now three weeks and the tail is still not healed.  She keeps pulling the dressing off that my husband made - it is a sort of inverted icecream cone that allows the end of the tail to breathe. However today it is off again.  Is there anything someone can offer as to what we can do to allow her tail to heal.  The cone isn't her favourite thing and she is after her tail every minute.  I dare not go back to the vet as I think he will lose it on me!

I would suggest keeping the cone on until the tail has had time to heal regardless of whether she likes it or not.  If it were to get infected, she might have to have it removed.  Yikes.

Question... It isn't clear to me...is the cone on the tail Or around her neck/head?
It probably should be around her neck/head.
