Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We adopted a black golden doodle, who has become one of our family very fast... however he was so matted we need to have him shaved down so he could regrow out. I noticed about 4 weeks ago his hair was not growing back in spots. My groomer said this is probably a thyroid problem, He eats fine, acts fine, and doesn't show any sign of irritation.

Also, does anyone out there recommended any special food for the bread?

Any advice out there would help

Thanks for your help.... I did contact vet and she also stated it didn't sound like a thyroid problem.  But she could run blood test etc.  Which I hate putting him though all those test since everything else seemed normal.

But thanks for the advice!!!!

Ron, our Food Group here on Doodle Kisses has lots of recommendations on good foods; food is really not breed specific, it depends on lots of factors such as age, size, activity level, and general health.
I think you posted this same information in another blog here yesterday, didn't you? As i replied to that one, i wouldn't take medical advice from the groomer. Hair loss is one symptom of a thyroid problem. But it can also be caused by many other things, and the matting itself would have caused pressure on the skin and follicles, which can lead to the hair falling out. Thyroid disease usually involves lethargic behavior and other symptoms which your dog doesn't have. I'd consult a vet if the hair loss continues.
