Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Anyone else have a "Loves to be outside, more than inside" Doodle.?

Our little Chloe has been a very independant doodle ever since we brought her home..way more than our other dogs (Goldens & Labs) have ever been. She absolutely loves to be outside, and chooses to play & sleep outside a good part of the time, except at bedtime, when she stays behind a "doggy gate" in her bed in our master bath. I have to make her come in to get her in bed.

Now let me explain.. We live in Las Vegas, and have a fenced back yard which has nothing but landscape rock (sucks, but its a rental). We have a Dog door in the sliding door to the back yard, and all 3 dogs can come and go as they please. My golden and my lab get absolutely unhappy, if they are ever made to stay, or locked outside, and will whine and cry to come in, but not my GD..she doesnt mind at all. If I put the cover on the dogdoor to keep them in, she cries, and lays down with her nose against the sliding door.

The other 2 follow me from room to room all day and are always within my sight, but not my Chloe, she never stays in one place for very long, and when I find her she is outside..either just wandering around sniffing gravel, or laying on the cold cement patio! Her favorite thing to do is find things like big rocks or chunks of cement from the yard and bring them to me. Sometimes its on my bed..or on the couch. She even went thru a "phase" of bringing in a nice surprise of Dog poop and placing it on the couch...ggrrrrr. So while my other dogs are curled up on the couch next to us watching TV, Chloe is outside laying on the cold patio. I did finally give in and put down a blanket for her to lay on the patio.

Now that its cold here in sunny Las Vegas, ( 40's & 50' degrees), she still likes to lay on the cold patio, even when its crazy windy!

I like that my other 2 dogs love to be with me and are always by my side, and I miss that Chloe isnt that way..at least not yet, after all she is only 4 1/2 months old. When she does come around she is so sweet, and does give me some great doodle cuddling and kisses, so I cherish those moments! I am just surprised at how independant she is, and was wondering if any of you have the same kind of outside loving doodle???

Jack is a total Mama's boy will only stay outside if I am there.. My mom's puppy Molly sounds a lot like your girl, Molly has to be dragged in the house or offered a treat to get her to come in, At my house it is fenced in so she will gladly play out there for hours.. We don't leave her unsupervised mostly because she will dig a hole twice her body size or more.. She is way more independent, She also lays on the cold tiles of my mom's floor.

She does cuddle and play with my mom inside, At my mom's house she has to be on a leash or at the dog park/. She gets a lot of walks and when it is time to come in the house she sits down and makes you either drag her in the house or pick her up and carry her.

Luckily though once she is in the house she will follow my mom around.. She is way different then Jack.. way more independent.. but enough of a Mama's girls to keep my mom happy.

Seda is an outside girl.  She likes to chase the squirrels.  Webber wants in as soon as I go in; Seda would stay outside for hours if I would let her.  She looks out the window much of the day.

I loved reading all your replies..wow there are a lot of "outdoor loving" doodles~

We dont have snow here, but only a 35 minute drive from here is MT Charleston, and there is lots of it there, so will take them soon to go play in the snow! I know Chloe will love it!

Sadie would stay outside all day...... and has.Only coming in for drinks or treats or if we insist that she come in with us.

She will lie on the step and wait for us or just poke around playing with her ball or frisbee or go swimming in the pond. In the winter she finds the best snowbank or snow drift and lies there.Very independant but still love to cuddle

Cooper will stay outside for a while but then will check in.  I wish Rylee would.  She has to be with me at all times.

Yes, Lyric (the white doodle in my profile pic) is very much that way--she is always hot and looks for the coolest place to lie down. In winter, she will go out and lie in the snow. if she is inside, she will find the coldest draftiest part of the house. My other two follow me from room to room and are always near my feet, but not Lyric.

Kona is my outside girl.  She loves to sit outside and lean against the sliding glass door.  She also loves when I keep the slider open and she has her choice of laying on the rug looking outside, or laying on the patio  looking inside :)

Boca would like to live outdoors.  She really would.  She can't handle being stuck inside for more than 30 min and sometimes she wants to go out 5 min after coming in.  So despite the fact I believe dogs need to be housed indoors and live with their people, I don't think that ALL dogs want that.  I think that like kids, they love to play outdoors and explore and have fun outside.  The only problem is if I left her out there all day she'd get into trouble.  If it wasn't for potential 'trouble' I wouldn't feel bad about letting her hang out in the yard during all daylight hours.  She certainly WANTS it.

Very independent for the age!! Wow!! usually they just want to be where we are, although if the red ball was out there Myla would stay forever.

My guys want to be wherever I am.  When Murphy wants to be outside he has a specific purpose in mind...tennis ball, frisbee, etc.  Has no interest in being outside without me.  Now when we go to my parents house in the mountains, on a lake, where there is no fence.....Murphy wants to be outside all the time...but he still wants me to be out with him.  Wilson?  Well....he is a follower...
