Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Our little Chloe has been a very independant doodle ever since we brought her home..way more than our other dogs (Goldens & Labs) have ever been. She absolutely loves to be outside, and chooses to play & sleep outside a good part of the time, except at bedtime, when she stays behind a "doggy gate" in her bed in our master bath. I have to make her come in to get her in bed.
Now let me explain.. We live in Las Vegas, and have a fenced back yard which has nothing but landscape rock (sucks, but its a rental). We have a Dog door in the sliding door to the back yard, and all 3 dogs can come and go as they please. My golden and my lab get absolutely unhappy, if they are ever made to stay, or locked outside, and will whine and cry to come in, but not my GD..she doesnt mind at all. If I put the cover on the dogdoor to keep them in, she cries, and lays down with her nose against the sliding door.
The other 2 follow me from room to room all day and are always within my sight, but not my Chloe, she never stays in one place for very long, and when I find her she is outside..either just wandering around sniffing gravel, or laying on the cold cement patio! Her favorite thing to do is find things like big rocks or chunks of cement from the yard and bring them to me. Sometimes its on my bed..or on the couch. She even went thru a "phase" of bringing in a nice surprise of Dog poop and placing it on the couch...ggrrrrr. So while my other dogs are curled up on the couch next to us watching TV, Chloe is outside laying on the cold patio. I did finally give in and put down a blanket for her to lay on the patio.
Now that its cold here in sunny Las Vegas, ( 40's & 50' degrees), she still likes to lay on the cold patio, even when its crazy windy!
I like that my other 2 dogs love to be with me and are always by my side, and I miss that Chloe isnt that way..at least not yet, after all she is only 4 1/2 months old. When she does come around she is so sweet, and does give me some great doodle cuddling and kisses, so I cherish those moments! I am just surprised at how independant she is, and was wondering if any of you have the same kind of outside loving doodle???

Because we don't have a fenced yard, I'm not sure about my guys. Somehow I can't imagine them wanting to be outside without me though.
My Daisy acts the very same way as Chloe. Sometimes I wonder how it would be with a clingy dog. But truth be told, Daisy loves being outside but only if one of us is with her - to throw the ball of course.
I just read Barbara's comment after I posted mine. Sounds like we have very similar dogs :)
Fudge is very independent too and personally, I like it a lot. I had two Labs before my Doodles and our first dog followed me within an inch of my life everywhere I went. I couldn't get up to do anything and there she was and never left my side. Sometimes, I just wanted to walk somewhere by myself...LOL!
Fudge is perfectly happy taking a nap back in our bedroom while I do something in another part of the house. She will rarely instigate cuddling, but sits back where Vern rushes in and waits her turn. I hug her all the time and she loves it!
Now, for Vern.....yes, he would stay out ALL day if I would let him. He likes to lay on our driveway or in our ground cover bushes and just watch the world go by. When it snows, he never wants to come in. He, too, does not follow me around, but checks in with me all throughout the day. LOL
Oh, and both my dogs love to play outside when it is raining.
OMG.... that is Oliver 110% He is a labradoodle and would live outside if I let him. I live in NJ so the winters are cold here and at times I have to physically go out and get him to come in. Sasha (goldendoodle) like the outside but is just as happy inside too. Oliver insists that I keep my back door open so he can lay down and look outside all day. I have a fenced in yard, a dog house that my BF made but Ollie just loves to lay down on my cement patio and hang. Even when I get up very early in the a.m. (4:30) I let him out first and start my day, I check on him every few minutes and sure enough there he is laying on the patio just watching the world go buy. It could be raining, snowing, bitter cold be he would rather be outside. Of course in the winter I do not let him stay outside for long periods of time, I do put a sweater on him on the 20-30 degree days if I let him stay out for any longer that a half hour. So YES.... I have a outside guy too !!!
