Jackson was stung by the bee at 7:30 am this morning and he had a major allergic reaction. Within 20 minutes his nose was 3x the original size, eye swollen shut, fever up and trouble breathing. We rushed him to emergency room and he was treated and released by 3pm. Quiet a scare and now I will always be so terrified of bees. If I wasnt home he may of died Terribly scary situation. So Grateful for the incredible team that took care of my puppy today at Laguna Hills Hospital.

One more thing - make SURE that your Vet shows you where on your puppy to use the EPI pen. It isn't like a person where you use it on the thigh. It should be in from of the hip bones, down from the spine. Also (since I'm sure we both be in a panic) remember that once you stick the dog with the pen - you MUST hold it there for 10 seconds (one onethousand, two onethousand, etc) - which is going to sound like FOREVER!
My Stuart (Goldendoodle) was stung as a young pup on the lip - he had a reaction but nothing as serious as what you are describing. We had forgotten about it till he was stung again this summer by stepping on a bee in the grass. He went into severe anaphylactic shock - rushed to the Emergency Hospital with follow up by his local vet. We now carry an EPI pen with us at all times (and leave it with daycare or the groomer when he is there). Sadly - getting your Jackson insurance at this point will not help you as they do not cover pre-existing conditions - which is what this now is. Stuart's EPI actually came in a 2 pack - not sure why you have to buy 2 but we did. It is an EPI Junior (because EPI's are for people so at 66lbs - this would be a kid size). They expire every year so if you don't use it - you must replace it and throw the old away :( Stuart's EPIs cost $312.00.
If Stuat ever gets stung again it could kill him without the EPI, I'm guessing the same for your pup so make sure you get the prescription filled, we carry Stuart's in a small strap-on treat bag that also holds poop bags, etc. while we walk. I keep the other one in my purse. If we ever have to use the EPI - Stuart will still have to be rushed to the Vet. Try not to be to scared about bees - now you will notice them EVERY WHERE - lol. We do try not to let him get overly close to flowers. Hope your puppy feels better soon!
Jane (Rooney and Stuart) had this happen recently as well. Stuart is now an Epi Pen Doodle as well! It is very scary! Unfortunately now your Insurance isn't going to cover Bee Stings, but at least you will be prepared for the next thing that happens. Just curious though, when a dog gets stung and you use the Epi pen do you still have to then go to the vet like you do to the doctor as a human. I was told to use the pen and then head straight to emergency. Just wondered if the dogs do as well? Glad that you were home and everything turned out ok.
yes Jennifer the doctor wrote us a prescription. We will get one right away. This was a very scary experience for all of us. I signed up for ins tonight.
I am so sorry, It seems a lot of our doodles are allergic to Bee Stings.. I am so glad you were home and able to save his live and get him the treatment he needed.
How scary...Did they give you an Epi Pen to carry with you should he get stung again? If not I would follow up with your regular vet to make sure you have one on hand.
