After we picked the name, we realized very soon how difficult and weird it sounds to american ear.

- Ca...what? - How did you say? -What's that? -Why? - Camoooo? - What a weird name?, etc. :)

Another mystery is why most of the people assume that he is a girl. I guess, they think: only girls can be so cute.

I am almost sure that this happens to many of you  and your cute doodles look like girls to people around, specially puppies.

Most people think Kahula is a boy, I think just from the size of her.  Also, I don't think people pay attention to the PINK, YELLOW and GREEN collar, well that is IF they can see it.  They may not guess her gender right, but EVERYONE tells her what a beautful dog she is.

Yes, we met only one person who said: "Like Albert Camus?" He even named me his favorite piece by Camus. Actually, our Camus was named after the cognac. :) And yes, we know another Camus-doodle from DK.

Sumac, hahaha.

I'm guessing the people who are puzzled by his name were not literature or philosophy majors.

It saddens me that so many people would be unaware of such a brilliant and talented man. I guess you can always tell them it's Sumac spelled backwards, lol.

Yours is not the only doodle named Camus here on DK. We also have Christine and Camus. Christine's previous doodle was named Nietzsche, I'm sure that puzzled people, too!

Camus is a perfectly masculine name (and a good name too).  @Ricki - When I see Tara I think Tear-a, so now I am going to be all mixed up! @Donna when I say Gavin, people say "Kevin?" which makes me laugh.  A dog named Kevin?  Oh wait, a dog named Gavin?

We used to have a long haired boy dog and a short haired girl dog and people were always calling him a "she" and her a "he"!  Now when people see Tara's name written it is often mispronounced as "Tear-a" when it is actually "Taw-ra".

Funny, many time when asked the doodle's name, I say Quincy, they say Princey! I was starting to think I was mummbling or not enunciating clearly, now I think they are too busy petting the dog to hear what I said. Camus is a lovely name and there is another doodle on DK named Camus.
