I have read so much information about food choices that I have rendered myself incapable of making a choice. Phoebe is set to arrive on 3/1 so I need to make my decision soon. I spoke to her breeder and she told me she is feeding the puppies Purina Puppy Chow but the parents eat raw. Based on what I told her about my research, she told me that she is confident I will make the right choice for Phoebe and our family but I am really not too certain of that at the moment. I want to choose a food that is readily available from local stores but that is the most nutritious for Phoebe. As of this morning--after yet another trip to the pet store--I am leaning toward Natural Balance (I have also read good things about it on DK and I know it is rated highly) but who knows what tomorrow may bring. My husband is of the 'if it isn't broke, don't fix it' mentality so he thinks Puppy Chow is the way to go...argggg

I got "Merric" "Puppy Plate" for Charlie. Their first ingrediance is Organic Chicken, then turkey meal, and duck.
My breeder said the same thing, "Purina Puppy Chow". I knew I could not commited to do BARF diet, but I wanted to give her a little more quarity food...
She loves it.

Make your husband sit down and read through the information in the Commercial foods section of the Food Group. All of it. He will no longer feel that way.
Unfortunately, when it comes to food, by the time you find out that it IS "broke" it may be too late to fix it. Many breeders who are trying to feed a lot of puppies on a budget may use poor quality foods like Purina...rescues do, too. You will do better by Phoebe, I know.
