Well here it is the first morning with our highly anticipated Goldendoodle. We have been looking for months and dooing a lot of praying. After a lot of research we (myself and my 8 year old) new it was a goldendoodle we wanted. The price however we didn't want. I kept thinking it would never be a reality until we found our breeder. There are few breeders that I found here in Oklahoma and most would not allow us to visit the property or the animal until after purchased. My problem however is I have an 8 year old son who is on the autistic spectrum and has allergies. So hair type, temperment, etc, extrememlyyyyyyyy important. And how do you know for sure if no one around has one for you to see. Then of course there were promises from breeders about matching temperments but again no guarantee on the shedding aspect and at the investment cost (which I could never afford anyway) I couldn't afford to be wrong.
So then our prayers were answered. We found a wonderful breeder who was great and allowed us to visit. However each time I thought I decided on which dog it was sold. So we come to Oct. 2 2009. I'm driving down to visit their new litter with my parents. ( Who are against this, they are little dog people). I had half the deposit in hand and was hoping to place the deposit down. They had one boy left over from the last litter. So we see him so I can show my mom the sweetness I have been talking aobut in this breed. She thought he was adorable. My son takes him out in the grass to play and falls in love. For months he has been picking out dogs on the internet each time to say "that one" and they all turn out to be girls. He kept wanting a girl and had nothing but girl names picked out. So this was a curve ball. I kept saying "he's a boy, are you sure". Then of course there was the price that we just couldn't pass up, so he came home with us.
An hour drive back home and he threw up in my lap about 20 minutes into the drive. Great!! Talk about stink. I passed him back to my son after a quick clean up and they rode rest of the way home attached at the hip. So now we have a dog with no secured fence, no preperation and the house is not puppy proof. I broke the news to my husband by sending a picture of my son in the car with the dog next to him by text message. He was not thrilled but said he should have expected for me to do something like this.
Great news though only 6 hours to go to complete our first 24 hours home and there has been no house training acciddents. What a good boy already. He slept in bed with myself and my son. Of course he was snuggled up to my son , which was one of my sons few requirements for his new dog. Now to wait and see if he "follows him everywhere". The breeders had a name on the internett instead of using a number or color. So he was named Levi alough they never called him that. He answers to puppy. Now the debagte is what to call him. Mark wants to keep the name Levi. I don't. Connor wants to call him Lucas or Luke for Luke Skywalker. I think it's kind of cute.
Well I think Levi/Luke is already off to being the best dog ever. My son woke up today with a 102 fever and that dog is in bed with him, right next to him already. I think my son might have got exactly the dog he wanted. Thank you Lord for answering my prayers.
