Has anyone done a DNA on their doodle. I did it from a company called.....DNAffirm--viaguard. Now my doodle is supposed to be 50 golden retriever(AKC registered) and Standard Poodle (AKC registered and a 2 time grand champion. The dad was the poodle.

What a shock when I got the report back.....Not that I want to do anything about it cause I love Turbo the way he is. But the report came back 50 Labrador---25 Poodle---25 Chesapeake Bay Retriever . The one parent is the Labrador the other parent is the mix.

I just got in the mail today another company called Wisdom Panel 3.0 I am going to send it in tomorrow just to see if they get it right and he comes back 50/50 goldendoodle. Anyone ever done this please let me know how accurate it was. Thanks

Lorry, now you know Turbo is what you thought he was - just a BIG what you thought he was. :-}  Thank you for updating us.  I love going to one of my doctors over the other - one scale always shows me to be thinner than the other doctor and my home scales.  :-}

As you have read here I did a second DNA test with WISDOM PANEL 3.0 on Turbo. His DNA came back 50/50 F1 goldendoodle.

Now the next thing is Turbo got neutered in October and this different Vet who I had used on my other dogs weighed Turbo in at 95 lbs, They also told me to cut 1 cup of food out of his daily food. Well yesterday I took him to his regular Vet and weighed him and he was only 80.2 lbs. He went to the groomer and I always get him cut real short so he looks more like a lab with a mustache and goatee. but he grows back very quickly to his curly poodle hair. He has never been wavy. I couldn't believe that 2 different Vets had such a big difference in their scales.

My main reason for testing Josie was I wanted to know what breed I was dealing with.  We camp off grid at the river and she showed a very high prey drive from the get go. Second came the curiosity.  Thanks to the knowledge of her test I know we can't let her free while cove camping, too many small creatures that we could lose her to running off after them.  Sassparilla, my F1 labradoodle, is ALL water dog so unless the water chased a small animal she has no interest wandering off. lol

I had my Josie DNA tested.  She came from a reputable labradoodle breeder but look at her, can't see the doodle unless you see her butt! lol  We lovingly call her our whoops-a-doodle.  We had her DNA tested with the Wisdom Panel Mixed Breed test.  They really talk about keeping the dog away from any others or licking you around testing time.  We crated Josie overnight and swabbed her first thing in the morning so there was no risk of cross contamination.  She came back much to my surprise Labrador Retriever and Miniature Poodle PLUS Greyhound!  So the greyhound is clearly the whoops! I don't know which side the genetics came from mom or dad but the breakdown shows direct parents the miniature poodle and mixed breed then lab, greyhound and mixed breed, she was sold to me as a second generation so the "mixed breed" could be the doodle to start? Even her grand and great grandparents were a mix of the three same breeds. Below is a snapshot of her breakdown.

She definitely has the prey drive, speed, and lazy disposition of the greyhound but is probably the most loving dog I think I've ever encountered. It's interesting how the Wisdom breaks down the genetics and each time I spoke to them I got a better understanding of their report and her genetic make-up. 

Interesting the test you took came back with those breed mixes although I think that would be a great mix of water dogs!  If you haven't done the Wisdom Panel swab yet ready the chatter in the Q&A's, I found most of it enlightening especially on how you do it could effect your results.

I was curious because Turbo is so large. His mama was only 60 lbs and the poodle was 60 lbs and Turbo has these huge feet and a very large head that he didn't grow into. His hind quarter muscles have a definite line from his hips. His chest is very large. Now I haven't seen many poodles up close but I did take care of a doodle that was 50/50 and they bred her to a standard poodle so that made the pup 25 doodle and 75 poodle?????? not sure if I got the percentages right but Turbo doesn't look like them either. If this DNA doesn't come back 50/50 then I'll see what they say he is and just love him just the way he is. Don't know if these DNA company's are accurate either. Anyway it is fun.

PS - how would DNA testing show whether a dog is a champion? We once pulled a dog for our rescue that turned out to be a full poodle rather than a doodle.  The new owner did a DNA test. Like you she didn't care about the results other than it was fun to find out. But I remember her mentioning that this little dog was from Champion stock. Huh? How does DNA know that?

I think many breeders are not honorable about their puppies.  I also know that Australian Labradoodles have lots of different dogs in their background.  Not even for fun would I DNA my Australian Labradoodles, but I have often thought about doing it on our goldendoodle rescue.

That was a surprise since the breeder supplied me with pictures of The female (golden retriever) and the male (standard poodle) who was supposed to be a two time grand champion. I have no doubts on the female but I did find out when Turbo was about a year old that the breeder took the female to the male and he only had picture of the male. The owner of the male was a standard poodle breeder. So who knows if there was an oops. I would not take 10 times Turbo's weight in gold. Even if I found out early on I still wouldn't trade him. He's my best friend.

I will be sure to post the next test results. It should be in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Wow--that sure is interesting! Do you know the breeder is trustworthy? I have a friend who got a "chihuaha" from a breeder who got so big, she did the DNA test--the pup was 50% Jack Russell--she got her money back from the breeder, who must have known all along that there was an "oops" litter!! Let us know how the other test comes out--and put it in the Discussion forum so more people see it.

I have always wondered how the DNA would turn out for Australian Labradoodles too since the stock that was bred in Australia supposedly had a lot of spaniels bred in, but no one has the records.
