Milton and I like to take little field trips together on long hot summer days. One of our favorite stops is Michael's, which, of course, is followed by a quick trip to PetSmart, located directly next door. The two of us usually amuse ourselves in the doggie section of the store, sniffing the bones and looking for pups to greet, but on this occasion, I deviated from our usual path, and we decided to peruse the bird selection.
For a dog like Milton, who desperately wants to nab a bird but, sadly, has never been successful, he was utterly and completely entranced. It was a private hunting ground just for him as he silently and stealthily observed the birds dart about in their sanctuary. After quite some time of deep stares and jumps to get a closer look, I thought it best to relocate to another section of the store. I could only imagine Milton's 62-pounds breaking the glass and birds flooding everywhere. I wasn't in the mood to pay out, just so he could finally have a victory.

I don't think the birds nor the PetSmart employees were too happy with Milt Dog stalking their lair, but it certainly brought a smile to my face and a little excitement into Milton's day. Next time you stop by a pet shop, veer over to the bird section and see how your dog responds; it might surprise you or at least cause you to giggle just a little bit.

The only thing in the whole world that Sophie loved more than the birds at Petsmart (other than me of course) was the guinnea pigs and hamsters! She did her early training at Petsmart and they always made her be right in front of the bird cages so she had lots of distractions! She would just stand nose to hose with the birds the glass being the only thing between them. She would try and drag you in that direction as soon as you walked in the door at Petsmart.
Cute! Looks like a nice outing - and if it's as hot where you are as it is here today, a good way to enjoy the birds AND the AC
Luna is with Milton on this one. She is FASCINATED by birds and always tries to catch them. She actually caught a baby robin once, but DH's quick thinking and the "Leave it!" command saved the little fledgeling.
Cute! That's what I did with Monty. We wondered around, watched the birds, mice, and ferrets. They had several cats for adoption, but when we came closer to their glass house, one of them tried to attack Monty so he's not too thrilled about cats since then. Need to have the same excursion with Auggie.
Cute Milt! Sadie is always entranced by the birds at PetSmart. But the last time we were there she was completely focused on a turtle that was minding its own business and swimming around its tank. She did her "what the heck is that?" growl and even smacked the glass once with her paw. I don't think she'd ever seen a turtle before.
